He informs the House that he in his place, is anthorized to surrender the work to the State if she will pay the company onehalf of what the canal has cost the company. I could stand op and say that I was authorised to say that if the company would pay to the State one-half of the amount she expended on the work, the State would indeed relinquish nr right to redeem the canal. It has been Intimated here that some personal feeling towrds the company has influenced me la my course npon the subject. To this I plead Hot guilty; I disclaim any personal feelings tavarda the company or a single member of it ; and I tppeal to any gentleman, either in or out of the bar to say that 1 have ever manifested any perwtial feeling towards one or the other.
