BROADWA r. N EW YORK. The New York Home Journal states that the "corporation" of that City have determined to construct & Railroad through Broadway, The road is to be elevated ten leet from the pavement, a track to be on each side ol the street. A proposition
is also before the council to pave tbe cen
tral space beeween tbe track with slabs of
glass, (it being demonstrated that sucb a
thing is practicable! in sucb a way as to
furnish a thorough'are for pedestrians and yet not intenere with business Acn. below This would make Broadway a two-story street, and divide the throng of that now overcrowded thoreughfare- Either this ore eubisraneous passage will have to be
adopted soon, or it will be a thing almost to impossibility to get through the street, so great is tbe crowd of those whose business or pletieure calls them to it. The Journal thus describes the contemplated
railroad: "Tbe model at the corner off
Lispenard street representing this aerial
railroad in operation, is very curious and interesting. There are two tracks on each side of the street, one for the passenger car, which never stops, and another
for the small tender! which pick up and let down passengers at every corner, over
taking or falling behind tbe large carriage,
at the will or the conductor, 1 here is a platform at each corner, up to which passengers ascend by ctair-cases, or by a perpetual ascending; end descending; sofa, worked by machinery of the road. The engine is stationary at the terminus, and the cars are drawn by a rope running over
wheels. Tbe natural dread of danger from a wheel's giving way, ie anliciuaied and guarded against, by two other sets of wheels, upon which tbe cars would drop incase of a fracture."
