In no cam- ran I permit mrwlflotta the ran lidar? fan? party, op yield mysrir tu party tKrm," "TH"-r'd " H partirs, and the National fnal nid be my great d aosorkinj aim." Gr. ryir, Tbe editor has been absent most or the present week. The InJiina Regiment of volunteers is full. Col Lane was authorized to receive two additional companies as Bankers ma king in all twelve companies. In 19 days from the time the Governor's proclamation was issued 39 companies offered their ser vices. Had there been a call for ten Re giments from Indiana, we believe it would hive been filled in 50 days. The Indiana troops will remain at Madison until about the first of Nov. when it rill be safer passing the yellow fever region at New Orleans. The Ohio Regiment was sent off lust week, but are not allowed to land at Natchez or New Orleans. The requisitions upon Tennessc and Kentucky are also filled, and twice as many more offered. The following is a list of the companies tbe place where raised, and the captain: 1. Wayne Guards , Capt. D. V. Lewis, Fort Wayne. 2. Indiana Guirds.Capt. II. Hull. Madison. 3. Rough and Ready Guards, Capt. George Greene, Jeffersonville. 4. Covington Guards, Capt. R. M. Evans, Covington. 5. Montgomery Boys, Capt. Allen May, Crawfordsviile. Shelbyville Hards, Capt. S. McKinzey. Shelbyville. 7. Hancora R'hoys, Capt. Jas. R. Bracken, Greenfield . 8. Centre Guards, Capt. John McDou -gall, Indianapolis. 9. Grabbers No. 2, Capt. A. C. Gibbs. I.awrenceburgh. 10. Wellington Guards, Capt. E. G. Carv, Marion. .Vo Vt . From Gen. Scott, we have nothing. The suspense over the result of the pending negotiations, is almost agoni zirg. So much is depending, ibat specu iators and paragraphias, suspend, for a season, their natural penchant. We have m'liing on which to build a castle or bury a bipe. All is uncertainty. A few days will certainly bring r.ews of tha greatest importance. Our Sheet. In the absence of news, we Lave tilled our paper with such miscellaneous articles as would be likely to interest our readers. -Tur Yocs WirE." Last week we expressed our astonishment at the introduction ir.to the escellent story of the Young VTife, published in our last, of Larsh language and unnecessary matter. We have since been convince! that it was not the fault of the authoress, but was inserted by the publisher of the CJio. Times, through mistake. The objectionable par agmphs appear in an article in this day's paper, in their appropriate place. We rejoice that our rriend and favorite a-ithorcee, the writer of "the Young Wife," is n it guilty of the use of the objectionable language. From Texas. The New O: leans parrs of la;h inst., have la'.e Texas papers. The (idiveston News states that the house ffWm. There are other candid"tcs in the field. Emigration had commenced from Mexico to Texas the Houston Star noticing the removal ir a large number or Mexican families from ihe towns on the Rio Grande to that neighborhood. Others wete to follow them. Bexar was also much increased in population by emigration from Mexico. And it is stated that the mimher of Mexican votes that will be foiled in Western Texs in November, will not he less than about 3:000. The Cotton and Corn crops, in the entire tier or counties from San Antonio to the Trinity, had suffered immensely from drought. tf.tr. .fec, 0 ... C. H. Smith. On Fii4y nighi the City Hall was crowded with another large meeting or the citizens. They were addressed by the Hon. Caleb B.Smith of Indiana, on the Mexican war nd the great questions which crow out or, and connect themselves with it His speech was one of extraordinary power and eloquence, and was received with the greatest enthusiasm. Near its close, he paid an eloquent tribute to the memory or Senator Corwin. With that name however, he was not permitted to round a period. Ot.uly f H ir;M.-The death of thti distinguished nnd excellent man is annonnced in the N.O. Ticaj iine of tbe Uih inst. The Picayune ay: He fell yesterday a victim to the cruel epidemic which is scouring our city, carrying dismay arraneuish into almost every bosom . Mr. Wilde is'so extensively and advantageously known in the country as a ripe scholar, able lawyer, instructive author, and statesman, that it would be a work of supererogation on our parts to dwell on his career. Besides his eminent scholarship, nnd crtarmins eloquence, he was universally esteemed for his private virtues, high sense or honor, and singular amiableness of disposition. In the Iangunge of Burke, "what shadows we are, and what shadows we pursue." But a few days since, the eified the mi,hia

September 5th, thro special express via Huejutla, and forwarded thence by its correspondent, by the schooner Charran, which leached New Orleans on the 14th. The substance of this letter, in connection with that of other information received verbally, is etated by La Patria, as follows; "Our fellow-citizens will learn, with the highest satisfaction, that, contrary to predictions freely made here, peace mi ill ottfieefy be thetetult of the present negotiaturns i between the Mexican Government and Mr. Trial. We learn that the utmost harmony prevails between the high functionaries deputed by Santa Anna and bis cabinet to listen in iho Government through the commissioner at ven. ocott s headquarters. The ITniioH Slates shall forever keep Texas, whose boundaries shall be extended to the left bank of the Rio Grande, or Rio uravo del Norte, including Matamoras. which shall be brought into the United States territory, by means of a canal to be constructed forthwith." Letter mom Mexico. The Journal of Commerce of the 23d inst. publishes an interesting letter from a field officer of the army in Mexico to a friend in New York, dated August 29ih. In introducing it, the Journal of Commerce remaiks as follows: "Of the result of the Peace negotiation Ihe writer expiesses some doubt. That the Mexican government, and Santa Anna in particular, would be glad lo make peace is considered certain; but there aie serious drawbacks, arising from the temper of the people, or a poriion of ihem, and the probability that Paredes and his partisans would make Ihe conclusion of a Peace, on such terms as our Commissioner was instructed to demand, an occasion for new revolutionary attempts. Either way, Sanla Anna is in a difficult position; and how he will extricate himself remains to be seen. The letter, written a week after the bat
tles, state the Mexican loss at 1000 killed, including two Generals, understood lo be Froniera and Torreionl 4000 wounded. near 3000 prisoners, including seven generals. Torrejou was ihe General who captured Thornton's squadron of dragoons on the east side of the Rio Grande, at, or rather before the commencement of the war. Thornton was killed by a cannon hall on approaching the Mexican capital, and if Tetrejon was killed also, the coincidence is somewhat remarkable." From the Daily Queen City of Sept. J9. Bros.Collims & Clark: ! have the p'easure of informing you that we suc- ... seeded in electing a tempeaace hatierv in L.awTenceDurcn,ln(l , a town in which there is more whisky made than any oth er place on the Globe. I visited there on Saturday evening last, f ir the purpose of organizing Lawrenceburgh Division, No. 101 orthe Sons tr Temperance, rindiana. The division was organized with 15 members, with Milton Greeg, V -n 1. tj-q., WHO nine snetili or Dearborn county, and who is a man of energy, talent and influence, as the Worthy Patriarch. The editor or the Repuhl 'can, Mr. Lancaster, wl o is highly and deservedly esteemed, is also among ihe officers. There was every promise, lhat this will in a few months, be a lgrge and flourishing Division, and w ill do much good. We organize the Division in the third story, in the rear or which stood one or those large distilleries,.which throws out upon the community its 3 0UJ gallons of liquid fire per day. But Saturday evening the fires had been quenched, and we looked dow n upon its bloody walls, and yet slowly escaping steam, as imemighiy mt nster which had become exhausted in feasting upon human lives and human happiness. When I followed in imaginhtion, the angrj and poison stream as it issued from tlmt estaolishmen!; and saw the ruin, desolaiion, and death, that it car-1 ricd in its Irak, I could scarcely repe! the temptation to use ihe torch of the incendiary. Bui under the circumstances, I was deeply impressed w iih the obligation to "warn my fellow men of error's path." The Temperance cause is now aneh.xed in Lawreiiceburgh, and we know it will spread until greal good w ill be the result. On the evening previous I organized Manchester Division, No 103, at Manchester Deai born Co., Ind. This division is located on one of the mot beautiful ridges of country in the world. Manchester ridge should ne.erbe desecrated by ihe footsteps of ihe deslroj ers. The cause is progressing in our, Siate.
