Ohio is a noble State an empire w ithin itself, and I have been permitted to see a very rich and pleasant portion of it. The Valley of th Little Miami from Cincinnati to Xenia. falls short ir my expectations. It is nut as good, ncr as well improved, as the valley or the White Water. The Madison Banner has hoisted the Taylor flag. Tlie citizens or Madison, also, at a large and enthusiastic meeting, have proclaimed themselves for Gen. Zachary Taylor for the next President of the United

That will do, dear friends of the rfeeft rfrein, ir only yon can get the democratic fnends net to say that yon are in "too big a hurry." That i the way thev talkoftis up here. eluded that "we democrats should now congratulate ourselves on having at L ast done something for the interest or our country." Of course thin the war was to be talked ahoot. but bow to get at it was the question, so as to make it do for the occasion; and the only way possible was to predicate that the Whigs were opposed to the war! To prcve this text, he reforred to Tom. Corw in : arguing that Tom. C orwin was a Whig of good authority. Tom. Corwin was opposed to voting men and

money to prosecute the war, therefore the Whigs are

opposed to the war, and therefore those of the same j opinion are "as thick as the leaves of the forest."

But the next thing was to shift the responsibility, which was done in a very masterly manner, and rhe amount of the whole argument was, that C ingress voted for the first bill that was really warlike, with a vote or 173 against 14, and Mr. Johnson of Maryland, was quoted as an able and influential Whig, who favored the speedy prosecution of the war. Now Mr. Robinson forgot that he was proving the falsehood upon the good logic he had just used to

prove the Whigs anti-war; for when eoulil Congress find 173 democrats against 14 Whigs? But comparing this with that, Mr. Robinson should acknowledge the fact that the Whigs hae been as active in sustaining our arms and honor in the National coun

cil, and upon the battle field as those of his ow n party. We sav not that the Whigs have done more, for

in this respect there is n party we are here all countrymen, and it is despicably mean for a candidate for so high an office to talk so naughty, unless he could make a more consistent story. He knows, as well as any one, that the Whig party does not endorse the war sentiments of Corwin and Co., any more than he or his rrty does all the doctrines of Benton and Calhoun. The next thing to prove was, that C.;ti. 7.aehary Taylor tro a tear mart, and tjtat he was about as
