An Element Extraordinary. BY SOMEBODY. In thespdays of romance, fun and frolic, it is no matter of surprise that 3'onng pirls are now and then guilty of ganctioniti2. if not commitiing.very foolish things. Jrnny Richmond was one of those wil ful little mioses, who conclude mihjection to 'the powers thai be.' ai little better than lt nriaht slavery, and tesolved, and at a vpry nnhecomingace. to decide f.ii herself on all questions tf importance. As a tr.a'ter of cnirp. she enjoyed frequent opportunist s fur repentance, after the commission of some wilful freak, the results of which sometimes demonstrated the maxim, 'two heads are better than one,' &c. Among oilier fooli!i notions, she eheiished an unaccountable antipathy against her cousin Frankjthat is, it would have been unaccountable, had it not been that she once overhead her parents dicussing the possibility of her union with the aforesaid cousin, when the' both should attain a suitable age. Fiank was a black-eyed, roguish-looking boy of about fifteen, when the unfortunate conversation occurred, and Jenny a wilfu! minx of twelve, so the plannings .r.i .1 ...t.. Mr. Richmond, the father of Jine and guardian of Frank, observing a growing coldness between thecouin, deemed a sepnralion necesary. Frank was accordingly entered at Dartmouth, while tlie daughter found an asylum for tlie tiir.e being at Mrs. 'a fashionable seminar-Some three years passed in this manner, dnring which the cousins never met. Jenny Richmond finished her course at the seminary, and graduated with about as much honor as one of her peculiar temperament migbi have been expected to win. At the expiration of Frank's college eonrse, he asked and obtained leave to travel through the southern states befer his return to the family mansion, or engagement in his professional studies. It so happened that Jenny, now Mis Richmond. has formed. among other pleasant acquaintances an especial friendship for a young lady from Va ,from whom she received an in itaiion to spend the ensuing winter. As her will had been for years tlie only law she acknowledged, it required no great pow er -f pursiiasion on her part, to induce her parents to consent to this arrangement, and Jenny left home accompanied by her father, who had reluctantly offered himself as escort, if she would persist in so soon leaving home. So lon; as her heart was free he had no fear: hut from ajetter to her mother, he was eventual!' led to ir.fer that 'a change had come o'er the spirit of her dream.' She had met with a young gen tleman, (o handsome, so intelligent, and i so agreeable, that her father deemed it tiesirable she should return home, before she made many discoveries of the gentleman's attractions. A letter, urging her immediate return, was forwarded, but like multitudes of other parental re quests, il was totally disregarded. fShe could not return then possibly, her friends would be so much disappointed, and besides, she was inf nitely better contented, than during the first few weeks of her visit. Fearing lest her headstrong will should lead her into irremediable folly, Judge Richmond decided to go for her without delay. His arrival was perfectly unexpected, and we are sorry to say not quite so welcome an eent to his daughter, as might have been supposed. Little Mis Wilful still. She was not j ready to return, and could not possibly be under a month or so. Judge Richmond insisted, while Jane continued unyielding. Things continued in a ra'her unpleasant state for several days, till at length weary of opposing his daughter.the Judge ceael his entreaties,
and allowed her to pursue her own course. The very interesting young man, who, by the way, bore the very aristocratic cognomen of Stanly Matkbam, coniiutied his attention d -spite of the hints so nlentifulv thrown out by the

As the case stood it seemed impossible for the Judge to carry out his favorite scheme. The cousin must give place to a stranger, despite a father's wWi. Discouraged, eventualy' Judge R. returned home, to reconcile himself as best he might todisappoimmeni.
