Worship Without Fear. Approach not the altar With gloom in thy soul ; Nor let thy feet falter From terror's control ! God loveV not the sadness Of fear and mistrust ; Oh, serve him with gladness, The Gentle, the Just. Daniel Boon's Courtship. In the immediate neighborhood of his father' new settlement, on the river Yadkin, another adventurer named Bryan, 00a made his appearance, and planted himself upon a beautiful spot, washed on one side by a lovely mountain stream, near which had been the favorite huntingground of the young sportsman. On . certain evening Boon ensazed a friend t meet him at th s spot, for the purpose of engaging m a "fire hunt." In this wild port one of the parties usually rides through the forest, with a pine torch berne on high, which, shedding a glaring light through the gloomy pecinct?, so dazzles the eyes of the deer, that the other party, who is on foot, shoots the game between the eyes; while the bewildered anfmal is staring at the blaze. Boon's companion was to bear the torch, and accordingly appeared on the field, and com raenceJ the usual round. They had not proceeded Tar w hen Boon gave the concerted siginal to keep the light stationary. The horseman obeyed, and waited in momentary expectation of hearing the sharp and fatal report of hie friend's rifle. -Not hearing it however.he returned his horse to ascertain the cause or the unwonted delay, when he saw his friend drop hi rifle.and set off in pnrsuit of some shadowy object, over hush and briar, fence and field. When Boon gave the siginal.to his friend, he indeed, saw the flame of the torch reflected by a pair of briiiant eyes, and he immediately cocked his gun, and brought it to his eyeybut instead of standing stupified by the light.to be shot at, the supposed fawn wheeled precipitately and fled. During this nnncn.l . -....uut lUV'TCilirill, Boon caught the glimpse of the flow ing folds of a petticoat dropped his rifle, an 1 made chase afier hi game. Si intense ha I baen his interest in the pursuit, thai he was little less surprised than his new neighbor Mr. Dryau, when he found himself standing in his door way, having driven the object of his chase into the paternal arms. The Washinjton correspondent of the New York Tiibune gives the following as a reason why the Locofo os wish to supersede Gens. Scott and Taylor in the command of the Army: Such as Gen. Eve ryihinghe said about the war has been literally fulfilled, and even now, while he is on his w ay to meet the enemy face to lace, the Locofocos open "a fire on his rear." Is this not affrdmg the enemy "aid and comfort!" Nothing can eiuour age the Mexicans more than to heat that our Generals have not the confidence of the Administration.
