That which wrings the bosom most, Your money won't allay; Sympathy's the sun that tarn Its dtikness into Jay. For the body, If ye wilt, Your bread and broth still dole, Love's the only nourishment That satisfies the sntil. Gingling change like that ye give May please the baser part, But kind and gentle words and looks Alone can reach the heart. Warmth's- not all the poor deman J, Nor shelter, nor yet fond, Ye who pause, bestowing these, Withhold the greater good. What they want, and what require, All things else above, Is kindly interest in thgW fate, And sympathy and love. A Female Lothario. Appearances are often ery deceitful, hut never more so than that when a lady assumes male attire, and in that disguise visits one of her own sex, and ponrs into her ear a . portion of the snfi, sweet strains of never-ending love. There is something strange and romantic about the practice of the ladies making love to each other, for which we could never ncconnt. Whether it is done through mischievous playfulness, nr from a mere curiosity to know the secrets of other hearts, or whether it ".rises from a desire to be revenged on the sex, by a portion of it who have never themselves been favored with a lover, they only know who practice it. We make the foregoing remarks bv way of introducing a serious of courting adven'u'es which lately fell to the lot of abnxon young Irish girl residing i.i this city. This miiden of the would be mas cnline gender, rejoices n the name of Elira McCormick. and for the last two or three years has manifested Mich a particular regard for a gentleman's cost and pantaloons that she often promenaded the streets rf Hamilton m fuM dress, even to a cigar and crooked can?. Thus equipped, her next object was ton look out for a sweetheart: a business in which she seems to have been exceedingly fortunate probBbly because she was better ttcqriHoler) with the strength of the citadel and the method of cundncting a successful attack than of those whoso dress and appearance she had assumed. Be that as it mav, we have been acquainted iih six of her pretended courtships, and all with dressmakers. Hour many more she might have been engaged in we know not, but to three of those she 'pPd the question' of marriagewas accepted, and one of them indulged so far in the pleasing dream of matrimonial bliss, that she' actually prepared her wedding dress. During the time that this female Lothario was carrying on her flirtations, she was living as a servant in the city , and she invaribly played her pranks upon such girls as were acquainted with the families in which she lived., vShe assumed all manner of characters, and had as many names as a member of the London swell mob. Sometimes she was. a student of medicine sometimes a limb of the law in one place she book-keeper in a dry goods store was a -in an other a gentleman of property, lately arrived from Ireland, and wts exceedingly hard np for a wife. When she determined on a nocturnal visit to any of the dear creatures whose hearts she had so skillfully charmed, she always went n her real character and dress, a day or two previous, and after oouniling the depth of tht young lady's affection fur Mr. McKenzie, or Mr. Fi: zpntrick, or w hatever name she had assumed, she would inform her that she had been sent by this gentleman to say that he would visit the object of his heart's fondest solicitude,at a certain hour of a certain night. This was playing o!T a double game. It enabled her, in re! character. to find out the state of the girl's mind, and in her assumed on, to ! i that information frher own advantage. Tie most rccptit love-making adventure that this breaker of InrMea'heaMs was enoigpil hi, terminated rather tragically on Sndny i'ig''t lat. She was engaserl es a pprvant some two months ago by a lady in the city, and at her master's hone ! berrre srntiailllcd tliih a inn no- nirl ------ i v j who was occassional I y errp!nyed tberc ! as a seamstress lien acquaintance had tipneil into eomethina like confidence sbe to'd the girl that the cleik in a certain store in tow n was deeply in lore with her, and thai he walked several nights in front f)f her father's residence, whistling a peculiar tune, in order.if possible, to get one gltmse at her pretty face. The bait as swallowed. To be loved so ardentljr.and by a clerl too, made the yoonjf flrp heart bent bislh, and when she was Informed that Mr. Cia f jril, (he name the heroine bud assatt&r,) would pass lier dwelling en xctrtain .nigbf,S!e waited his approach of fererMi aaaisiy a 'e3 t

The night came, and did Mr. Crawford, dressed in a suit nf her master's clothes, lie wbistleJ his little luup the door of a certain bouse was nnietpsr opened as be passed, and the young cnmftrcs, Mushing at b r b ldnes, stood gazii:2 on his receding figureIn a lew minutes he had returned, and in a Tew mre he rommenred operations. He was In love deeply, distractedly and incurably. She listened to his avowal, gave him some euroursgenient. and told him that re was free from any engagement. This seemed tu revive his love-torn spiriits, and after making an appointment for another interview, Mr. Crawford departed. The parties met several limes subsequently, but the yuing girl was not so green at her pseudo lover had expected. Ste scpected Mr. Cr Tord to be of the feminine gender, and communicated her
suspicious to a young man of her arquain-; tance. who, with a trusty companion, was ready to pounce upon ihe unfortunate lover the net day he wonld make his appearance. Last Sunday night gave the desired opportunity Mr. Craufoid wai seized, but like a genuine Irishman, he up wiih bis fist and knocked down one of the Intnu'ers. When the scuffle was ended, Mr. Crawford Stood conftss'd A maid in all her charms!" She was taken to the police office and locked up during the rema'nder of the night. On Monday evening.as no person had appeared aeainst her. he was libera ted and resumed female attire. We hope the shame and mortification of a public explosure will have a salutary effect upon her future conduct.
