GRAND DIVISION REGALIA. The Grand Division, at its last session, decided that each Delegate to Ihe Grand Division must furnish his own regalia; or the Subordinate Divisions must furnish it for them. The regalia costs 5:00. and
can be had by applying to Bto. Hannaman, at Indianapolis, who is agent for selling some belonging to the Grand Division. No member or the G. D. can lake part in tts business unless clothed in his regalia. The Grand Division also decided that the red was ihe appropriate regalia for all P. W. P'a (except the acting P. V . P.) to wear in Subordinate Divisions. Consequently, most or those eligible to seats in the G. D. will have the regaiia suitable. We do not think it advisable, however,
for Subordinate Divisions to spend their fonds in purchasing red regalia. All P. W. P's who do not prefer purchasing, are permitted to wear the white in Subordinates, but not in the Grand Division.

Sweet Cider
Several weeks since we received a communication from one purporting to be a Son or Temperance, on this subject. Ill health an 1 presto' duties have compelled us to defer a consideration or this letter. He finds fault with 1 Noah Webster's
and the N. D.'s definition of cider," and thinks the decision of the supreme tribu
nal of the Order will have the effect to hinder Ihe onward progress of our Insti
tution. He says ,;unfertnented' cider contains no intoxicating quality," This it unquestionably true, for fortnenlation is
the process by which the "intoxtcatin g i
quality" is developed. But when does
fermentation takejplace? and is every one
to be his own jtidge, by making the ex
periment on his own person?
Chemists agree that ard madly ihe pro
cess of fermentation begins as soon as the
juice is separated from the pulp, and that
it is gradual, that there is no precise moment when it can be free from Alcoholic propriiies. Unless ihe Vinous formentation is arrer
ted,it passes gradually and imperceptibly j
into the acetic, and becoiiies vinegar. The btother admits that when it contains alcohol it is violation f the pledge ! use it. Suppose we grant that there is a brier period after the juice is expressed from the apple before it contains alcohol;
How long does that period continue? And how is the lover or "Sweet Cider" to know when it is forbidden? Musi he

Imparlanl from Mexico. Later Mexican dates via Havana have been received by the X. Y. Sun. The intelligence is of a very important character. General Santa Anna had sent an express Mes.ge to the Congress of Mexico
demanding immediately eight millions of
dollars, declaring the country lost, with, out hope, if this sura could not be obtained. The Congress immediately took the General's demand into consideration, in secret session. The confiscation of church property had been proposed and generally entertained. The clergy were greatly alarmed atihis
measure, and had threatened the Congress, Government and Array with excommunication, if the design was peraistH in. Extreiuo violence was exhibited by the Clergy an their opposition to the measure.
