BT TRF. tT M. C. fltLD. Tfit Dying Murderer. A man ta ronfined in the prioon at Santa Fe f.ir tnorder. We ere admitted to aee him. Hit mother, a ragged, tottering, gray-haired woman, eat by hia aide aa he lay upon an eld buffalo robe Ihat was spread in one rorner or the room. The face of that old woman haunts the writer at this moment. She eat on the bare floor of the priton room, with her glatsy eyea fixed with intense vacancy upon her wretched, dying aon. The miserable prisoner marked our entrance with a dark scowl, but she seemed wholly unenncious of our presence, and, indeed, of everything. Eight years' sorrow had furrowed double as many wrinkles, and left little room for expression in her countenance; vet, the very absence of every thing like meaning In her face, made her appearance mre trikirgly impressive. In that fixed and vacant stare w e reed the doating rondnas of a mother' heart, clinging still to her wretched hoy when branded by crime, andeccrn, and misery, and marked for death by the law and by disease-thai horrid and loathsome disease which Is the terrible punishment of vice. The unhappy wretch had murderrd a girl, his own neice, a young and innojvnt rreatnre, w ho teprocrhed him for a rohbery he had ccmmiUed upon a priest. He feared the artless girl would, in making her confeesion. expose hia crime, and. exasperated that he could not make her promise seeree y he plnnged his knife into her heart. He fled to the mountains, and would have escaped but for the vigilance of the giil'e lover, who hunted the mnrderer alone for days, after the officers of justice had given tip ihe pursuit, until he had succeeded in capturing the wretched criminal. Hunger and the friahlful disease which was consuming him, had made the miserable being weak, and he would probsbiy have perished alone among the mountains, had he not been found, for it was January; and even had he possessed strength to hunt animals for food, he could not have lived through two night exposed in the snow to the freeiing winds wl.ich howl through the winter months around those gisnt hills of atone. His pursuer found the most wretched man, exhausted end fainting, concealed In hollow tree, and, bent firmly on a just revenge, he hunted game, kindled a fire, and wiih hi own hands fed the murderer of his betrothed. A more extraordinary thing than this cannot be conceived. The young man never exchanged a word" with the criminal, bul with an iron firmness, born from blighted hopes and a prospect of a life of eorrow, he fed him, restored
htm to strength, and drove him back to Santa Fe. We spoke to the unhappy man, hut the very kindness of our tones seemed to offend him, and he answered only wph a dark frown, he took no notice of In. mother, but lay brooding in sullen snd gloomy despair. His festurea were handaome, but the expression of his eye made ns shrink and shudder. The paleness of death was already visible in his dark sunken cheek; yet, if his countenance is to be believed, wicked passions were still raging fearfnlly within his breast. An alcalde entered leading a priest who carried a crucifix and prayer book. The criminal maintained his flxt-d stare at the I oof, yielding no attentton to the solemn greeting of the churchman; but the old woman aud'lenly changed her position, and knelt beside her son. Still no expression appeared in her countenance, and no sound escaped her lips. Her white hair w as rudely tied with a string of deet akin, and a coarse blanket end a tattered undergarment was her covering. When the priest appeared she drew from her bosom a small crucifix of wood attached 1o o string of beads, which she pssoed n:erhanh al!y throngh her fingers, still with her faded and Instress eyes fixed upon the fi rm of her dying son. The priest knelt !an, tnd offered to take the band of the criminal, but the hand wi; saaiched net out!y away, and the dark.

StiJJeti'jr he prang tip in sitting position, and opened hia muitth for the first time, he gave vent to a anrceasmn nf arreama and yells that raued tie to atari bad in terror. We tnitU-d from the pris'in, for the sight was too tertihV, and as we passed through the low Joor way, we ssw thai the poor oJ woman had fallen on her face, and was lying seemingly insensible upon the floor nf the dungeon, whilst th priest was stooping to aasist her. The miserable rr.au died that ttif hi.
The Dying With. The following beautiful lines deserve a place in Ihe sersp-book of memorj: A little Sunday School girl, when dyingwihed her mother to put no roses tt'iind her head in the coffin; and on being asked why not, said, "flecsuae ChtieVa head was crowned with thoriis." The beautiful thought ha been verified by James Montgomery, Kq. "Mamma,"a little maiden aaid. Almost with her expiring sigh. "Put no aweet rnee round my head, W hen in my coffin-dress I lie." W hy ll0t, my dear!" the mother cried; "W'hat flower so well a corpse adorns?"' "Mamma," the innocent replied. "They crowned our Saviour's head w -ith thorna." DR.
