FOREIGW NEW S. ARRIVAL OF THE Steamship Caledonia. The steamship Caledonia, Capt, Loll, arrived at Boston on Monday, with advices from Liverpool to the 4th, and London of the 3d instant, both inclusive, The news was immediately obtained and brought by express to this city. The mony market was in an unsettled 3nd unsatisfactory state. There appears to be a stagnation, in the corn market?, in consequence of the movements in Parlimiiil relative to the corn law.

J It is said that the Oregon question vill cut ofT, lo a large extent, the emigration j from Germany to the United States.

near Loodi.niLih, and other ly Sir. Ilenrv Harding and Sir. Hegh G nigh, with the main body of the enemy on the margin of the same river at Sobraon. In both these engagements, the arms of the British forces reaped new lain els, & inflicted terrible retribution on the invaders. Our troops awed their success mainly to the able hoad which led them to victory, and to the use of the bayonet in the attainment of it. If rhe enemy had the advantages in these respects which iho British troops possessed for the personal courage of the Sikh soldiery is undoubted the slaughter would have been far more terrific, the consequences infinitely more momentous. The severe thrashing of the Sikh forces by Sir. II. Smith, has been consummated by the total defeat of the main body by the Governor-General of India and the engagement is estimated at from 1Q,003 to 12,030 merij that o( the British, in killed and wounded, at upwards of 2,040, amongst whom is a large number of officers. The action commenced in the mornin

and the work or destruction had closed by eleven o'clock in the forenoon. Sir. II.

Goiijjh.s account of this battle proves it to have been, while it lasted, one of the most terrific on record. Unlike the able manoeuvring of Sir. II. Smith, this affair seems to have owed its success to the daring intrepidity of our men, who stormed the enemy's entrenchment-", bayonet in hand, defended us thy were by 30.000 Sikhs and 70 pieces of artillery. The slaughter was immense, for our troops bravedjthe enemy's fire by reserving tUeirshot until they got within his entrenchments. The horrors of war are painted with appalling power in the few brief seuti nces of the victorious commander. Tin; action terminated in the complete rout of the enemy, the capture of his guns and the loss of his camp and bagg;SJ. An awful sacrifice of his life took place on the Sutk-j, in attempting to cross which our troops mowed down thousands of the retreating foe, and those who escaped the (ire were drowned in the stream.

order of 1001, was handed to us by a most excellent lady of the town of Jffdr&onvillo

with a request that we insert it in the A-

and atrocities of this secret order: AN EXPOSITION. Of the Signs, Tokens, Passttoords, Grips, 4C, belonging lo the secret order of 100J Robert Spencer Hi.v, N. S. Introductory Observations.

The present is an ae of discoveries.

While Science is unlocking her golden hoards, curiosity is revealing tbo secrets of the past, and dragging to light the convicted superstitions and decits of sixty centuries. Plunging with the boldncs of rectitude into themistf y labyrinths of secrcey man tears from the face of shame the visor of benevolenco, and discloses the hideous features and loathsome deceits of that iniquity, which for so long, through the agencv of secret societies, has ruled this

world with a rod of iron, and effected the basest ends through a s.erie of means lawless and diabolical. Nor have the operations of the Order which we attempt to cvetthrow, been of minor importance. Claiming remote antiquity of existence, it penctrates.under the

garb of levity and love, designs of hellish atrocity, and in its wickedness surpasses the serpant of Eden. We give facts, and dare not to comment, lest our indignatian should cause us to transgress the bounds of propriety. A creed requiring such performances asking a sacrifice of honor of domdstic faith, of patriotism, as the shrine of Secret P.nTi.ANsiiip would

not. nor does it hesitate, to dye its hands

in crimes of deepest damnation, where important ends are to be compassed! Qur danger we know, put fear not. Though as at initiation, the dacc; n were held to our bosom nay, plunged therein

with the trembling efforts of expiring innocence would we condemn the creed that cause the ciime. Though we share the fate of the martyred Morgan, and some Western Niagara hurl our mangled, corps over its rugged steps, even at the bar of eternal Justice wouid we prefer our complaint, and demand a shining reward. Our motives are righteous it were indeed a crime, lobe cognizant of such corruption, and connive at its successful operation here, in our very midst. It is impos

sible for us to profit to the extent of a single farthing; but if an order of horrible craftiness is barred its criminal triumphs.if the innocent are protected from its cruelty

the widow and fatherless from its avarice, and the unwary from its satanio decits, onr gratification U complete. The Order IS influential! Already it erf cts costly templesalready its Lodge looms boast of magnificent ornaments and splendid regaliaalready it numbers hundreds upon thousands of members; of whom, all the 'true ones' are false to patriotism, to their domestic vqws, to conscience and their Maker.
