Coi Mt-wrniTtRS Excitement is Wahs.v. Watsaw, Ky., for the past week, has been a field or great excitement. One day last week, some of the citizens, who had atwayt been looked upon a respectable men, were arrested upon a charge of passing counterfeit money. There were four persons arrresteJ. Soon after the arrest one or them' made his escape from the guards and was not found for over a Jay, but he was taken at last, and loJged in jail, which place has been guarded by seventy am&l nen ever since, from fear of an attempt being made by some interested persons to rescue them. On examination, some new facts were elided concerning sundry thefts that were committed about Warsaw and In the neighbor
hood of Rising Sun; and the evidence con
cerning the passage of counterfeit money was very clear as to their guilt. Three or the men were required to give bail in the sum or S12.000. An attempt was made to rescue them during the progress of the trial of one of them, on Tuesday last, by set
ting fire to a Urge stable, thinking thus to
attract the ctowd from the court uouse,
and that they then could force a rescue; but In this they failed. There were about
1.000 persons at the Court House, aomeof
whom made a rush to the lire, but the
guat J proceeded to the jail and stationed
themselves there and preventeu an ai temrt at rescue. There is great excite
ment among the citizens or Warsaw, and danger is apprehended that the town will
be destroyed bv some or the gang. One
or the men has threatened that if he is sen
tenced to the States Prison, he will exrose and ruin some of the wealthiest and
most respectable men in Warsaw. This
gang has been associated in the passage of counterfeit money, with a gang of the
same stripe on the Wabash river, and one or them has just returned from that part
of the State where he has been on a finan
cial excursion. The gang is. supposed to be a very extensive one, and when the thing comes to be perfectly sifted, we should not be surprised to hear of a very
important branch or it existing in Law
renceburgh. An arrest was made licre
last week, ora man who is well acquaint
ed, and verv Ireauentlv at Warsaw, lie
was arrested on a charge of theft, and re
uuired to give bail for hi appearance at
court. tttrenc(bnrg Register, Aug, 30.

To those r ngagod in the important, but arduous task of instructing youth, McGtrrcT'a Eclectic Readers, Nos. One, Two, Three and Four, are now presented, thoroughly revised, and greatly enlarged, with many imortant improvements. They are now in a permanent stereotype form, NO FURTHER ALTERA TIONS being intended. Trof. McGuffey's enthusiastic devotion to the cause of Education, his fine taste and discriminating mind, and his practical experience as an instructor, render him peculiarly fitted for the department of authorship, to which he has given his attention. The suggestions of intelligent teachers who had used the former editions of the series, and the valuable aid afforded him in the revision by an experienced educator, have
also furnished him with unusual facilities for advantageously revising and enlarging these works. In this series, comprising as it does, a careful selection of instructive, entertaining and vwral matter, progressively arranged, and graduated with reference to the capacity of the pupil, Prof McGulTey has afforded to parent and teachers, a most thorough, complete, and efficient auxiliary in the cJucation of youth. Its extensive ue has bren sufficient for the development and jult appreciation of its many excellencies. The result is, that intelligent teachers pronounce it the mtU comjMe series now before the public. The intrinsic merit of Trof. McGufTey' Ec!ectic Readers, having gained for them an unparalleled and rapidly increasing circulation, the publisher is enabled, notwithstanding the heavy expenditure in their revision and enlargement, to manufacture them in the neatest and most iuralle manner, while they are now furnished at such Irm rriccs, that they are the CHEAPEST,, as well as the best school reading hooka extant.
