WHIG XOMIXATIOXS. TOR GOVERNOR, SAMUEL BIGGER. LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR, JOHN II. BKADLEV. FOR CONCRESS. JOHN A. 3IATSON. Mitson and Smith. The candidates for Congress will commence their cauvass in this coin ty some time next wenk. We have not be cn able to procure a list of the appointments. Mr. Matson having made most of the appointments in Switzerland, Ripley, Decatur, and Rash, left Mr. Smith make the appointments in this county and in the upper part of Dearborn. The appointments made by Mr. Matson close at Pennsj lvaniasburgh on to-morrow evening, and the understanding between Mr. Smith and Mr. Matson som t'tree weeks since. was for Mr. Smith to make the appointments in this county, commencing about Wednesday or Thursday next. But Mr.Smith has published no appointments yet. And from what we witnessed at Clarksburg on Thursday last, we are disposed to think he would rather no more appointments would be made. In corroboration of
this idea, we will state one fact. In all cases where Mr. Matson made appointments, he gsve Mr. Smith timely notice, but Mr. Smith made an appointment about 10 days since and addressed the citizens four miles north of Napeleon on the Michigan road, and gave Mr. Matson no noice of it, and Mr. Matson knew nothing of it until some days after it was over. And this is the way Mr. Smith would rather pursue during the balance of the canvass. But we hope the Whigs of the district, if they should hear any mare of his secret appointments, will let Mr. Matson know immediately. And we assure the public that Mr. Snith shall be timely advised of Mr. Matson's appointments. He wishes to meet Mr. S.nith face to face before all the citizens of the district, and discuss the great political questions agitated at the present day. He wishes no bush-whacking electioneering. Mr. Smith has been begging off from the canvass for two or three weeks. He entered the canvass in high spirits, but having been driven from almost every position he first assumed, and having attempted one expedient in one place and another in another place, to raise a breecze in h'.s favor, and having signally failed in all, he now concludes it would be better to quit and mend to bis harvesting.
But fellow-citizens, he wishes to make ap- Senate- Mr- Denne, has addressed his felpointments in secret places, where he can ) low-c'i"ns on Blue Creek, on Pipe Creek and iruke all kinds of misrepresentations and ion Salt Creek, we believe.
