COUNTY CONTENTION. The loco foco county Convention convened in this place on Monday last. The following is the ticket they presented to the people of this county, to-wit: for Senator, DOCT. GEO. BERRY. Itepreteniatitet, JAMES R. JONES, JOEL PALMER. County Commissioner, AMOS D. MARTIN. Assessor, HIRAM BUTLER.

By what process of legerdemain this ticket

was imposed upon the loco foco party, wc are not permitted to know. Why it is that they

should nominate surh a ticket from among the

number of candidates before the convention, is

not easily accounted for on rational principles.

Old and tried men of their party, who waged

war upon the whigs of this county w hen they

were in the ascendant, are pushed aside for boys

and striplings. But w e have no reason to complain. The uoTTviiation suits us very well. We are opposed to conventions, especially to

loco foco conventions; and shall of course spare no honorable exertions to defeat their election.

POLITICAL PORTRAIT.

Tire Hyena, in some respects, is a true representative of some political characters. There is in the natural world but one animal, either savage or tame, which plunders the grave. It combines in its character the extremes of revenge, ferocity, and meanness; and has through all time received its full share of odium. It is a beast of hideous and unseemly aspect ferocious and insatiable in appetite yet cowardly in attack, and executes its designs upon the living in darkness, and by stealth. And when
