WHIG XOMI TIOXS. FOR GOVERNOR. SAMUEL BIGGER. UNTENANT GOVERNOR. JOHN II. BRADLEY. tor rr"CREP3. JOHN A. 3IATSON. On Thursday last, in accordance with his appointment, Gov. Bigger spoke in the Court house in this place. Although the roads were bad ana the weather unfavorable, a number of both Whigsand Democrats were in attendance. The Governer referred briefly to his official course, and remarked that if there were any charges alleged against him, they had never reached his ears. In fact, we believe there are im objections, either to the public or private character of Samuel Bigser; and if he is defeated, it witl be because the people do not approve his principles. We do not apprehend
nny such result, however. The Governor spoke on the different topics of national politics, usually discussed before the people, and handled them with great clearness and force. The tariff question was ably argued, and the document entitled "Facts for the people," issued by James Whitcomb, the

Governor is not directly charged with advoca-' two cases, each party will make a compromise, rpivod the nomination, and we hazard noth-
ting the assumption of Slate debts, we shall be
mistaken. In advance we say to our readers, that when they hear such a charge, they are at liberty to pronounce it a falsehood. The Governor did speak of the plan of Mr. W. C. Johnson for the issue of Government stock, based on the sales of public lands. He did not pretend to advocate the measure, but referred it to the people for their consideration, avowing that he wished to think of it himself. He deprecated the policy of making such a question a more party question; and contended that if it were for the general good, all parties should favor it. lie then exhibited the effect it was supposed this measuie would have upon the
the wrong, man. There is another truly ' Democtatic" feature
in this article the adulation of Col. Watts. Now if Col. Watts had been nominated, we doubt not, this very paper would have abused him with as much zeal, for being the nominee, as it now praises him for not being the nominee. The reason is obvious. They desire to make Col. Watts feel that he has been badly treated, and to induce him to relax his efforts in the Whig cause. But we understand the Col. belter than this. He deserves all that lhe Pullidium says of him; but he knows that when

We are gratified to learn as reports reach us from all parts of the district, that the late Whig nomination for Congress gives universal satisfaction. This is right; and if our friends will only be active we shall carry the district.
