WHIG NOMINATION'S. TOR GOVERNOR, SAMUEL, BIGGER. LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR,
JOHN II. BRADLEY. FOR CONCREPS. JOHN A. MATSON. THE WHIG NOMINATION. Our friends discover by the report in'anclher column that our townsman and friend, John A. Matson, is the regularly nominated
Whig candidate for Congress from the third
Congressional District of the good Whig State of Indiana. To say that we are satisfied with the nomination of Mr. Matson, would be a
weak expression of our feelings; we can say
that we regard it as a wise move; and while
cur judgment approves it, we are happy to
feel that in any efforts we may make to sus-
niti the nomination, we have superadded to
our strong desire for the success of whig prin
ciples, the warmest feelings of respect and at
tachment toward the person of their proposed
representative. We hale with a cordial ha

There is something in having a candidate of good private character; no matter how strong one's party zeal may be, it is swallowing a bitter pill to vote for a reckless villain, who has no other recommendation than his party tripe, and perhaps a certain demagogue party tact. It is said that the Locofocos at a late
meeting' in the 5th congressional District vo
ted down a resolution declaring they would
not sustain for office any man whose character was notoriously bad; thus in effect saying they would vote for the w hite-washed public defaulter or the private peculator. The late Napoleon convention evinced no such spirit as
this; for of all the names introduced as candidates for a nomination all may be said in this
regard to be "without fear end without reproach." Mr. Matson's appointments will not probably be made known until after the democratic convention of the 18th proximo. All we ask now is the open-field and a fair fight. We
