The following beautiful effusion, taken from the Southern Literary Messenger for April, is distingttiched for purity and gentleness of thought, ,aad sweetness of expression almost inimitable. Its quiet melody-its dream-like and spiritual beauty and its tones of bewitching tenderness, come over the heart 'Like softest music heard in sleep," or "Like the low chant of the distant wares By spring's soft breathing stirred." MUSINGS. BY AMELIA, OF LOVISTILLE, KT. I wandered out one summer night rwas when my years were few; The breeze was singing in the light. And I was singing too. The moonbeams lay upon the hill, The shadows in the vale, And here and there a leaping rill Was laughing at the gale. On fleecy cioud upon the air Was all that met my eyes.It floated like an anel there Iletween me and the skies. I clapped my hands and warbled wild A here and there I fier; for I was but a careless child. And did as children do. The waves camo dancing o'er the sea
In bright and glittering bands.Like little children wild with glee. They linked their dimpled hands. They linked their hands but ere 1 cnughj Their mingled drops of dew, T.ey kissed my feet, and quick as thought Aw-iy the ripples flew. Tlio twilight hours lile birds flow by, As lightly aud as free; Ten thousand etara were in the iky, Ten thousand in the sea; For every wave with dimpled cheek That leaped upon the air. Had caught a alar in its embrace, Aud held it trembling there. The young nnon. too, with upturned sides. Her mirror'd beauty gave; And as a bark at anchor ride9. She rodo upon the wave. Theses wa9 like the heaven above, As perfect and as whole. Save that 'll seemed to thrill with love, As thrill? the immortal eoul. Tbe leaves, by spirit-voices slirr'd. Made murmurs on the airLow murmurs, that my spirit heard, Andanswer'd with a prayer; For 'twas upon the dewy sod, . Reside the moaning seas, I learned at first to worship find. And sing such strains as these. The flower, all folded to their dreams Were bound in slumber free, Ay breezy Lille and murmuring streams, Wbero e'er they. chanced to be. No guilty tears had they to weep. No sins to be forgiven; THey closed their eyes, and went to aleep, Right in the face of heaven. Xo costly raiment arouitathetn shone, No jewels from the seas, Yet Solomon upon his throne, Waa ne'er arrsyed like these; And just as free trom guilt and art, Wre lovely human flowers. F.re sorrow set her bleeding heart On this fair orld of ours. I have heard the laughing wind behind. When playing with my hair The breezy lingers of the wind. How cool and moist they were ! 1 heard the night-bird warbling o'er lis soft enchanting strains' never heard such sounds before. And never shall again. Then wherefore weave such strain! as these, Aud aing them day by day, When every bird upon the breeze Can sing a sweeter lay! I'd give the world for their sweet art. The aiuplc, the divine; I'd give the world to melt one heart, As they have melted mine.

TO BE READ BY ALL WITHOUT FAIL. DR. SPOHN'S ELIXIR OF HEALTH. THE author of this article is very desirous that his views and assertions should not be mis understood, and that the public should know the real merits and effects of s important a remedy. He will state a few facts on which tbe reader may most implicitly rely. They are true. It is asserted most solemnly and seriously, and the person
who will investigate will find them invariable.
On this assertion the author pledges his reputation and character not only as a roan and physician, but
as a moral and correct good citizen. We repeat, this medicine is all it professes to be. Gentlemen have told the proprietors often, that whether prudent or not they feel perfectly safe from any fever while they have the article. They can always throw off the worst kind of fevers in a few hours, if taken at the commencement. They rise from its use without the least debility, and feel perfectly free, well and bright. Will not the public five it a trial!
A iv uncommon fact is, that this remedy is a syr
up palatable and pleasant to the tate, and children take it always with the greatest readiness.
1 be proprietor is now making rapid arrange
ments to have this article in the hands of every druggist and apothecary in this country. It niny

enee; and were never aeiore aammisierai id so
happily efficacious a combination. - Their first operation is to loosen from the eoata
of the stomach and bowels, tle varinaa impurities
and crudites constantly settling around them; and to remove the hardened feces which collect in tbe convolutions of the small intestines. Other medicines only partially cleanse these, and leave such collected masses behind as to produce habitual costiveness, with all its train of evils, or sudden diar rbma, with it imminent dangers. This fact is well known to all regular anatomists who examin
the human bowels after death.- and hence the pree
judice of these well informed men against the
quack medicines or tbe age. J he second encci oi the Vegetable Life Pilla is to cleanse tho kidneys and the bladder, and by this means, the liver and the lungs, the healthful action of which entirely depends upon the regularity of tha urinary organs. The Blond, which Ukee its red color from the agency of the liver and the lunga before it passes
into tbe heart, being thus purineo oy luem, moo
non ished by food coming from a clean stomach, courses freely through the veins, renews every
part of the system, and triumphantly mounts the banner of health in the blooming cheek. The following are among the distressing variety
of human diseases, to which the Vegetable Life
Pills are well known to be infallible:
DYSPEPSIA, by thoroughly cleanaiug the first
and second stomachs, and creating a flow of pure
liealthy bile, instead of tbe stale and acrid kind; Flatulency, Palpitation of the Heart, Lose of appetite. Heart-burn and headache. Restlessness, III

are occasioned, and by promoting the lubricative
secretions of tbe mucous membrane. Fevers of all
kinds, by restoring the blood to a regular circula
tion through the process of perspiration ia some
cases, and the thorough solution of all intestinal
obstructions in others. The Life Medicines have been known to cure Rheumatism permanently in three weeks, and Gout in hal f that time, by remo

by dislodging from the turningi of tbe bowels the

diaeases. Scurvy, Ulceia, and Inveterate Sores, by the perfect purity which these Life Pills give
to the blood, and all the humors; Scorbutic eruptions and Bad Complexions, by their alterative ef

state of which occasions all Eruptive complaints,

Tbe use of these Pills for a very short time, will effect and entire core of Salt Rheum, Erysipelas, and a striking improvement in tbe clearness of tbe
skin. Common colds and Influenza, will always be cured by one dose, or by two, even in tbe worst eases. Piles as a remedy for this meet distressing and obstinate malady, tbe Vegetable Life Pills deserve a distinct and emphatic recommendation. It is well known to hundreds in this city, that tbe
originator ot these invaluable rills waa himself af
flicted with this complaint for upwards of thirtv
