a full half crop will be made. Corn will be

but little injured by the drought; perhaps it has been benefitted by it, for the farmers have

had an opportunity, during its continuance, to get their corn fields well cleaned of weeds and

grass.

dreary prospect for the coming corn crop.

vegetables generally, now look healthy and vi porous, and promise at least an average yield.

The Vincenncs (la.) Gazette rays, that on

the 17th 'we had quite a copious rain. Never, within our recollection, in this section of country, have the crops required rain more

than at present.

The llarrisbutgh, Pa. Reporter says The wheat and rye crops are comparatively

lieht. The oats, corn and

We have no comments to make at present upon this most extraordinary transaction.

vve can only say now, that, whilst we have no doubt of the great guilt of the sufferers,

without a single pnlliatory circumstance in their behalf, and whilst we cannot use the

term mob in this case, in the ordinary sense, yet has there been inflicted upon the majesty

or the law a most dendly slab, and the miscbievious consequences of which, time alone can calculate. The sacredness of the law has suffered gross violence; and for the stability of our institutions, we sincerely hope this

case may stand isolated in the history of the
