should have no corner in your hearts, ner influence over your deliberations. They are a prev upon

It is the ambitious aspirations of professional politicians that have always distracted our ranks by forcing nponns unworthy men, and driving seme from us by the selfishness of their aetions. Let us therefore, gentlemen act in a tnre liberal and independent manner. What do we owe any politi

If any whig will not be centroled by an expressed

If you with to bo cured of whig folly, read
twice a day the returns of the Congressional Elcc
tion for the Fifth District in this State. AlXJarty
and Smith have been guilty of acts that should for
ever consign them to political graves. Had not
telf prevailed over any wish for the prosperity
oftheir country, they would both hsve declined
and abandoned the contest te some man that would
hare united all the whirs. Aid any roan that
would thus sacrifice the interest of his country
for the orotnotion of self, aia onlv following in the
footsteps of a Judas or an Arnold. But as we ne
ver bad any desire for office, and hope we never
may, we are but poorly calculated to judge of a
man's heart who is thus situated.
But fellow whigs, you have determined te bold
a County Convention. Upon this subject onr pri
v ate feelings are well known, but they shall not
be set np in opposition to yours. We would rath
er our office seekers had sufficient patriotism to
dispense with it, by a manly course, worthy of the adherents of such a cause. But in this world, we must take things as tbey are, and not as we should like to have them. We therefore entreat you to conduct your Convention in a manner calculated
to promote the cause of democratic principle" to
win favor by your liberal and enlightened acts and ensure a triumph over federalism. It will be seen that White Water township bas
taken the lead. To-morrow two weeks is the day
for the General Convention at this place. Is there any township willing to be unrepresented in that Convention! And we conjure every whig to pre
pare his mind to give tha nominations of that Convention his hearty support. It is not pr obable that
the friends of every man can be nominated, you will therefore, keep intrigue from your councils, selfishness from yoUr hearts, and illibarality from your actions. But we have no fears from a joint action of the whigs of this couaty they have suffi
cient intelligence to select good and honest men -
