The correspondence between the British Minister and the Secretary of State, in relation to the negroes of the Anvstad, has attractraded great attention here. Mr. Preston alluded to it incidentally in the Senate to-dny and characterised the conduct of tha British Government in the matter as an unauthorized interft-rer.ee with the concerns of this country, which he hoped no department of the Government would favor or sanction in. the slightest degree. His course of remarks on the subject, arose upon the presentation of a memorial by Mr. Norvell.wf Michigan, from citizens of New York, urging the interposilion of '.his Government in bVhalf ot certain patrio(s" who were taken in arms during the

fTnnnHiati insurrection, and condemned to

death, but whose sentence has been commuted to banishment. Mr. Preston expressed (he strongest objections to any interference with the domestic concerns of a foreigo nation: and after adverting to tbe proceedings

which have taken place on the Canadian Frontier, and declaring that this Government .had taken no part in any of those proceedings wlnf h Reserved censure, he hoped that 110 color o. apology would be given for the interuositiJtk of Great Britain in the case of the
