cember number will, however, be a specimen of
the Aew volume. I he olume will be opened with a new and beautiful type, the finest white paper, and with the first of a series of embellishments vnscrtassfd by any which have yet appeared in any Magazine. The style of elegance.
the beauty and finish of these illustrations, aud the
extensive improvements which will be made in its typographical appearance, and above all the tone
of its literary department, by the brilliant array of
Contributors, wbose rtcles have enriched the pages
of each number, will give it a character second to no Magazine in the Union. The character of the articles hich shall appear in its paces, will be
equally removed from a sickly sentimentality, and
from an cnectation ol morality, but whue a true delineation of human nature in every variety ol passion is aimed at, nothing sbaSl be found in its
pages to cuse a biusu upon the cheek of the most pure. THE LITERARY CHARACTER will be sufficiently guaranteed by the reputation of both Magazines thus united, for years past, a, Writers of the first rank hnve been regular Contributors to their pages, and the tales and sketches pub
lished in them have been widely copied and read, and the firm and independent tone of the criticisms, upon the current literature of the day, has been every where approved nnd commended.

A cvLL-SBasiON of CoNcnsss. It has ocevirredto us that the strong probability there will be a necessity for an Extra session of Congress very soon after the new administration goes into power. Of coarse this is a mere conjecture. Present appearances indicate thai the national Treasury will be left empty, nnd that it will be necessary to make some provisions to keep the wheels of Government in motion. Would it not be well for the Legislatures of Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, lilinei. Missouri, &c. &c, to take this matter into consideration, and if they coacar in the opinion, that there may be a necessity for such a movement, to make some provision for electing their representatives before August!
