Vo-. the New-Few WA;f. THE TWO COUSIN'S. cocsis caxaiKs. My cousin Charles had been absent so long from the part of the country in which my frnn- i ily resided, that I had almost forgotten him; and yet on the morning of his railing to see roe, soon after his return, las voice awakened a thousand lender recollections of by-gone days." yie we were rhilemi together, a very happy intamacy existed between us, and very often we fchared each other's pleasures with something more tl.nn n brolhcs's cr sisters affection. Now he an J I had ,tome to rears of maturity still I was single, and he, 1 hardly Know how to say It, was as handsome as ever, thcojli rather more sedate, and there weie a tew care-marks on his forehead. Charles had not sat with me long, before lie said many kind word?,calculaled to awaken as many kind feelings in my willing heart. He talked of eld times old ecquaiutances told over old stories, went over the old grounds of our country place the school house the; nutting ground the little bridge oyer the brook, and oh! a thousand things too numerous to mention here; so that when he rose to fro away, I found myself asking him two or three tin.es. why he went so soon. I believe tic saw my state of feeling, and half rejoiced in it though he looked very serious as he bade me "good bye." He called again, he was more lively than before, and talked and laughed with my father and mother till the evening was nlmost gone, and then proposed a nhort walk with me. I knew not why, but I trembled when I put my arm in his. He seemed to nolice it, and spoke more kindly then ever. : Our walk was a very long one, and yet the time passed so rapidly, that when we returned to the door, 1 believe I sighed, and said something about the evening's beit' shirt. What lie s-id in reply, 1 do not now exactly remember, for I was really quite agitated, as 1 found him upon the point ol bidding me adieu. Somehow I remember my hand was still in !,;, as we entered the sitting-room, from which the light had been removed and in which the oHj-rtj wer- somewhat indistinct. MMary,'' said he, "peihsps I shall not see you agJtin in a long lime, and I wish to ask you a very serious question, perhaps you will not like to answer me immediately." He spoke in a soft, gentle lone, and I re member now distinctly how I trembled from head' to foot. Mary, dear Mary, I wish you to tell me IJ.-nc mej blue brans make peel I never answered him a word. coram a juit. After the laueh at Mary's rtory had some what subsided, I s;iw that all eyes were turned to me, as if expecting further explanation. i sound it a good opportunity, to tell a story and so proceeded. That evenina to which allution ha? already been made, was one cf the most delirious, ofj me very many surh, I have had the pleasure nf passing through. Several times daring my walk with Mary, I was tempted to declare my pmion. it 15 a fact, that I Rough I had not seen hr for year, her image had been with me very often. I he impressions of rhildhoo arc strong and I wtisig. Our morning rambles -trough the h Us our httle parties of pleas ure into the woo ls our little misunderstand ing, like April showers, driven awny by the sunshine of better feeling the stolen kiss of reconciliation the gift of flowers and fruit the best always saved for ine all these.lhougl long p.ird, were revived during thatdelicht ful wulk, and I felt my heait clinging closer .nn.l closer to Mary s. And there was one thing I discovered, du t. . . ... 1 ring me evening, juary loven me; sue did tiol know that 1 knew if." How should she? I had never asked her. and vet it needed not an eys one jot sharper than my own, to discover it. The man need never be mistaken on this point. Those who go begging aftef thi one and that, know before they begin to beg the fail ones, that they do not love them, llat the moment one loves you, you can tell it. Many a lime, as 1 spoke lo her, her arm as it lay on mine trembled, nnd as I would try to citch a moonlight view of her face, it was hid immediately under her pretty straw honnet. Sometimes when I asked a question, she hardly knew whether to say yes or no. She was a high-minded, noble hearted girl; yet these traits were given her for other experiences. In the affair now under consideration, she proved only tender-hearted. Mary loved me. When we were about entering tha bouse o i our reiurn,i saw the old people had retired to their own room. The hall larrm onlv was lighted, and as we entered the sitting room, the words were on my lips to ask her to be mine, and 1 proceeded; but as the first words fell from my lips, my heart failed me, and in stead ol "popping the question," I had inlen ded, some evil spirit compelled me to the utterance of I scarcely know what. Laughter, Gfton, go on.l Next evening,! found Mary and her fulher and mother together; she scarcely spoke to me; they were more than ever pleasant and talkative. For full half an hnnr Marv cat. I little or nothing I taw that she was hurt I knew that she ha a right to be t had trifled with her feeling; acted foolish and basely. How could I make amends! It was Retting late, when the olJ people rose to retire, and I was heartily glad when they turned' their backs on us. Mary and 1 were once more alone. Neither of us spoke for ever so many long minutes. Mary spoke first. Her voice sounded rather soft and ml. ancjiolt. She called me Charles, but with

At three quarters past nine o'clock in the morning, a mass of clciids will be seen, which will spread all over Europe, and descend gradinlly towards the earth's surface. ' As soon as these clouds arrive at distance of three ft-et from the surface, the whole human race will be, as it were, atupified for a qnarter of an hour, and loose both sighlnnd hearing. After the 6fleen minutes have elapsed, they will find themselves mi. pen ded in the air, between the mass of clouds nnd the sky, at a height of eighteen feet, or mereauou's, during winch time the earth will be fumed completely upside down, and then return toils former position, nnd all things eo on once more in their regular course. Already do we hear from every partnf the Statr the "busy notes of preparation, for a vigorous and arduous campaign, ami eacn party is casting about them for leaders in horn they can repose confidence. Aside from National politics there are many questions, in which the neoDle. and the State are deeply interested, which will have an important inSucnce on the result of th election. On the other hand, there is no certain ty as to who will be the candidate That will be decided, however, by a convention to be nem on me ott, or January next. Amos Lane, Esq ex-member of Congress, and now a member of the Indiana Legislature, has been spoken of as the person most likely to receive that nomination. He is n shrewd politician, a man of strong natural abilities, and much personal popularity.
