The author ia an individual of un impeachable ialecritf.nnd is cool and cau tious in the formation and expression of his opinions: hence, we mar fairly presume that he is not kecking to manufacture political capital, or envious or gaining a repulition as a skillful, scliemeing politician. "While at Philadelphia I was informed bv h gentleman in private lite, but who takes great interest in public affair?, a former resident of Massachusetts, that the friends of Mr. Webster would support Gen. Harrison in the national craven lion. Tins idea was repeated to roe in the interior of New-York, and by a person who could not be mistaken, and who had no motive to deceive. He said Mr. Ad ams, and other whigs of Massachusetts, entertained an opinion that Webster and his friends would support Harrison and that Mr. Clay could not get .Massachusetts. . ?Mr. ii , of New-York, seemed to fear that Mr. Clay might carry their delegates. 1 found the papers there buoyed up with the National Convention Would nominate Mr. Clay;althoigh I learned afterwards, at Albany, that , or the , was secretly Harrison's friend ; and that the diversion in favor f Gen.
