Congress. We have the proceedings of the

21st. It will be seen that tbe Sub-treasury Dill has not passed. Rives' amendment has been rejected by 9 majority. From this vote, the indications are favorable for the final passage of the bill in the Senate. Much doubt exists in the mind of the public relative to the fato of this measure, but we hope it will be soon decided Ar either pood or bad. ,Vr. Eltcood Fisher is announced in the Vevay piper as a candidate for the next Legislature from Switzerland county. He gives notice that he will address bis fellow citizens at Vevay on the econd Tuesday of April. He takes time by the forelock. .Yfir Hampshire. The elections in this State have resulted in the re-election of fsaac Hill,

Governor, by a small majority. A majority of

tbe House ef .Representatives is Whig, and tbe mijority in the Senate doubtful. This speaks any thing but comfort to tbe administration. By the politeness of Mr. Osborn we have been furnished with a copy of the following act relative to Gambling, which will be in force so soon as the laws are published. An act to suppress Professional Gambling ap

proved tea. loJS. Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General aslemblyofthe stafe of Indiana, That every person who shall be the keeper and exhibiter of any Gaming table such as ABCorEO table, Billiard table, roulette, shuffle board, faro Bank or any other gaming table, establishment or apparatus for the purpose of winning money or other arlicle,or property of value, "and every person who shall get his livelihood by gaming, and having no other visible occupation or calling or that are found wandering about from place to place without fixed residence in this state, in the habit, or practice of gambling, shall be deemed and taken as professional gamblers, and shall upon conviction, thereof, be imprisoned nt hard labor in the State ptison for not kss than one year nor more than five years at the discretion of the Jury trying the same; who may alio add disfranchisement for any time not exceeding five years. Sec. 2. It shall be the duty of the Circuit Court to give this act in charge to the grand Juries. And it shall be the duty of Justices

of the Peace in the several counties on their

own view or information against any person

offending against the provision of this act to

Issue their warrant, and cause to he arrested

and brought before some Justice of the I'eace

of the proper county, and on examination such offender, to commit, let to bail, or dis

charge, as the case may require. And it also shall be the duty of all Sheriffs and Constables

on view or otherwise coming to a knowledge

of any violation of the provisions of this act, forthwith to take the necessary legal measures for the arrest of the offenders, and them to carry before the nearest Justitc of the Peace for examination. And any of the aforesaid fficeis neglecting or refusing to execute the

duties herein enjoined, shall be liable for ne elect of official duty, and on conviction there

depth, and the health of tbe place snd vicininty is unsurpassed by any place in tbe west. Timber, stone and materials for brick and lime are conve
