PeHiuyltiViit. Returns of the late election in S, j State come to hand very tardily. Our latest aformation is by the National Intelligencer of the 19-hof Oct., which says: "The intelligence from PtNNsVLVAM since our last i encouraging. In the western districts the Whigs appear to have iocatctive, and true to their duty. Mr. McKknsu, a staunch Whig, ha9 been re-elected to Con rwss in the Washington District by an increased majority, and in the Beaver District thorough Whifs have been elected both to the next Confess and to fill Mr. Banks's vacancy. The Chimbersburg Repository very justly remarks , V do not believe that the result of the late election ought to discourage the friends of Gen. Hirrtson. The causct which operated to pro duce it cannot bear on his election to any extent. Ik election has been email every where, and the Ymites have carried by very email majorities. The Whig majority in Philadelphia alone overbiUnces the united majorities of nearly all the cflunties hoard from, in which the Van Buren 'men have elected their Assembly men.' " V. Jertrv. The National Intelligencer of October 15HU says that "the election in New Jersey appears to have resulted in a tie in one branch of tie Legislature, and a majority of 12 Spoilsmen in lie other. It is stated in some of the papers, a tat authority does not appear, that the Presi dential electors will not be chosen by the Legisla tures was anticipated, but that .n early day will be fixed by that body for an election by the People. Should this be the case, it will still be in the power tftbe Whigs to give the vote of the State to their cindidaU. Nothing is necessary to their success Here, at well as in other States where Jacksonism Us been permitted to triumph through their uipinenew, but to imitate the zeal, and devotion, r.d fidelity to their eausc which is (to their praise be it twken) ever displayed by their adversaries. The mother and four children providentially escaped. The father was awakened by one of his daughters, who slept in the room where it is supposed the fire first took, and went to the door, gave the alarm, and returned into the house to get two little children, which were left by their mother she hav ing carried out one in her arms, and on his return to the door he was met by the Hames and fell, as is supposed, with his children in his arms, and all three expired together. MIV. subscriber hereby gives notice that he W'lll eXnOSf? At hllhlii. o l I ... Of . I ..,.. uajsof November next, from two to three hundred Int. in the town of BALTIMORE, situated on "hite Water River. Franklin County, Indiana. I or many years past, the subscriber has been ardently solicited to lay off a town at this point, an.l dispose of lots; but has always heretofore relused on the ground of his irreconcilable aversion to triHing country villages, whose populations are made up too frequently of the idle, dissolute, and intemperate portions of the community. Hut believing that since the passage of the Internal Improve"lent bill, there are rtmfrrrp.l i,nn .!.::. : i dition to the universally acknowledged natural advantages .t possesses, others that w. II render it o point of great importance for business of every kind, atid.secure the erection of a town not surpassed by many in the State, he has become convinced that it is his duty to open the way for the accommodation of the country, and to meet the eager wishes of the numerous applicants who are desirous of establishing themselves t i;;m , i spot. Baltimore has heretofore been extensfvclv known by the name of Conwell's Mills, and for Mall J nogs. veais has been a place of considers!,!. J'he valuable Mill I i. nr i . - -j-w . i. j , uiuiii" (IIIU tilling Machinery, 1 annery, and extensive Mercantile establishment; and various Mechanic shops have caused it to be regarded as the centre ol business to a large tract of surrounding country. For beauty, fertility of soil, and advanced state of improvement, this neighborhood is not excelled bv any in the r.ate. As regards the eclubrity of the proposed site for the town, it is unrivalled. During the last 16 years the subscriber has resided in Una neighborhood; there has been a population ot from JO to 60 souls at this place, and but a single death has occurred during that time. IJaltimore is situated on the western side of the west branch of W hite Water River. The White Water Canal which connects the great National Road, in the fertile interior of the State, with the Ohio Iliver at Lawrenceburgh, a branch of which will rr0 lo Cincinnati, passes immediately through the town, 'lhis Canal is already commenced, the whole hue will be soon under coi.tract, and vigorously prosecuted to a speedy completion. The proposed site n? mil.P.8 from Co-rmersville, 15 from Ilrookville, 16 from Rushville, XJ2 from Greensburgh, 56 from Incianapohs, and oo from Cincinnati, fcituated on the River and Canal. It possesses advantages of W ater Power adequate for every purpose that may be required. At the town and for two miles and a half above it, there is sufficient fall, and at all seasons an abundant supply of water to drive one hundred run of stones. When it is considered that a largo body of the most fertile land in the state, densely populated, lies immediately west of this point, and that for the greater part of the year from its entire destitution of Mill .Streams, its inhabitants arc compelled to resort to this place. It may readily be conceived that this is one of the most important points for business upon the whole line of the Canal. Lying as it does upon the immediate, and direct line to market, it already attracts the citizens of a considerable part of Fayette, Rush and Decatur counties; and this attraction will acquire a much wider range, and extend to many fertile counties farther in the interior North, and West as the place increases in size and importance; several tributary streams pour into White Water both from the East, in its vicinity, on the margin of which are thriving and populous settlements, which for years have been dependent on this point as their centre of business. Alon these streams are 6tate and county roads conceit traling at this place, and connecting it with Connersville, BroukVille, Oxford. Rushville, Greensburgh, and other intermediate towns. Of all the necessary materials for building improvements, there is an abundant supply aslay, Stone, Timber, &c. It may be worth while to noticethat the great projected Rail Road, so interesting to the South West; designed to connect Cin. cinnati with Charleston will unquestionably attract me uusiuess oi i ne northern and western part of the Mate to the Ohio River, in which event the YMutc Water Canal will be the obvious channel through which this immense trady will flow. In conclusion it is thought proper to intimate that as it has always been the anxious design of the proprietor to promote the interests of good morals and society, he designs in the disposition of this property to secure as far as practicable these ircat interests by requiring a pledge from all purchasers, without exception, that the property purchased shall never he used for the purpose of establishing Dram Shops or Distilleries. . Liberal reservations will be made for tho erection of places of Worship, Seminaries, Markets, Jcc. Terms. One-third cash, or a note and security, with interest, at ninety days.
