action ol the convention, by Mr, Lrwin the chairman, now report the following preamble and resolutions.
The Committee appointed under the reso
lution oi the Convention to prepare andre port business for the 'action of the Conveii vention, beg leave to make the following re
port: That inasmuch as the State of Indiana has embarked hugely in works of Internal Improvement, connecting various portions of the State, antl providing outlets for her surplus productions, thereby greatly enhancing the value of private property in the vicinity ol such works, to construct which, the aggregate people of the State contribute. Ami whereas, the citizens resident in the valley of the Last lrk of Whitewater, view with much satisfaction the efforts making to improve our Stale, by creating facilities for external and internal commerce, and feel a willingness to aid and assist in the improvement of all practicable works of utility, in whatever section of the State, yet they feci desirous to participate more immediately in the benefits of such works. From the hirhlv improved anil
densely populated valley of the East Fork of
nuewaier, a considerable portion of the State, revenue has been and will be derived, and it is but reasonable that a corresponding share of the benefits arising from public iinprovcmenls should be extended to it. This has not been done in the provisions of the general system. Seeing then the nccessitv ot keeping pace with the times, and of using such means ns are within our power to advance the interests of our fertile and beautiful
country: therefore-.

probably turned the scale against him. Mr. Gatcwood docs not appear to have been seriously supported except in a few counties. It is said that a great part of the Opposition vote was cat for Mr. Snyder out of hatred for Gov. Reynolds, though wc see no reason to doubt the attachment of the former to the
cause of Mr. Van Buren.
In the second District, Mr. Casey's major
ity will exceed L,000; two yeas' since it was 1,500.
In the third District, Mr. May's majority will probably exceed 1,500. The total vote
in this Distriit must approximate twenty thousand ! May's majority in I, about C00. '1 he Van Buren papers claim two to one in the Legislature; those cf the Opposition take 35 to 37 of those first heard from, and think there will be a majority in the Senate and a large gain in the House for (heir party. On the whole, the result of this election renders it highly probable if not wholly cer
tain, that Illinois in November will vote lor Van Buren and Johnson. .Y,n- Yorker.
