" Intersection of the Whiteitater Canal and the National Road. rplIE UNDERSIGNED, a Committee on the J- part of the proprietors, will sell on the premises, at CAMBRIDGE, Indiana, a large number of building lots on the 8th of September, intt. Cambridge City a in Wayne county, Indiana, about 53 u-iles east of Indianapolis, 52 west of Dayton, and TO north west of Cincinnati. It is on the West Fork of the Whitewater river, anV nt the precise intersection of the Whitewater (.'anal with the National Road. It is supposed to be unsurpassed in natural or artificial advantages by any town site wholly interior in the western country. It is in tho heart of Eastern Indiana, nnd in the richest and most populous county in the State, row containing nearly 30,000 thriving and industrious inhabitants. In this neighborhood is raised a largo amount of pork for the Cincinnati market, of which last season, a single individual sold to tho value of $44,000. This point must necessarily become the depot for the produce of an extensive district of very rich country; thence to be distributed by the Canal, Rail Roads, and Turnpikes to various places on the Ohio. The facilities furnished fordoing this, under tho Internal Improvemsnt System o" Indiana, are scarcely equalled at any point whatever. TII5IY ARE: 1st. The Whitewater Canal, which, bij law.
terminates at this point, on the National Road. This Canal-will traverse the valley of the Whitewater, from Cambridge to tho Ohio; terminating with one branch at the City of Cincinnati, and tho other at La wrenceburgh. Thirty-five miles of this work, from Lawrencebtirgh to a point north of Brookville will bis put under contract this fall; while the branch to Cincinnati will he constructed, either by the State or an Incorporated Company, during the ensuing yeHr. The State liasin has been located in Cambridge, and a large Private Basin will be constructs! by the proprietors, on the ground now offered for sale. Two Locks are within, or near the town, offering water power for manufacturing purposes; besides which, Martindale Creek, within a short distance, affords ti no Mill sites. 2d. From Cambridge to Muncytown, on the great Central Canal, tne Slate has established the Cross Cut, to be either Canal or Rail Road, as may be expedient. It is believed the Rail Road will be adopted. This will connect the Whitewater Canal at Cambridge with the Central Canal. From Muncytown, the State continues the chain, by Canal, to a point on the Wabash and Erie Canal: Again, the Stale makes either a Canal or Rail Road from Fort Wayne iu the Wabash Canal to Michigan City. Thus the connection is made complete, through Cambridge; from the Maumee and Wabash route, by the valley of the Whitewater, to tho Ohio river; and also, from Lake Michigan, by Fort Wayne, to th same point. 3d. The State has loaned its credit to the Lawrenceburgh Rail Road Company (where Stock is subscribed, and part of its work advartised for letting) on condition that it continues its Rail Road to Rushville, only 17 miles from Cambridge; thence, it is contemplated to convey it to Cam bridge, and finally to Fort Wayne. 4th. A Rail Road has, also, been surveyed from Hamilton to Oxford, which being continued, will intersect the Whitewater Canal, and Fort Wayne
Rail Road, at Cambridge- and should the Cincinnati and Charleston Rail Road be connected with Lake Michigan, it must connect with the public works of Indiana, on this point, which is on a straight line from Cincinnati to the southern bend of Lake Michigan. 5th. CAMBRIDGE is on the great NATIONAL ROAD, through the North-western States, where it crosses the West Fork, the W hitewater Canal, the Cross Cut Rail Road, and where it will be intersected by tbe Harrison Turnpike, (now finished to the Miami,) when continued through Indisna: a line of Stages runs from Cincinnati, via. Brookville to this point; another, from Lebanon, and Cincinnati, through Hamilton and Oxford, intersecting it at Connersville; and a daily line runs through it,from Dayton to Indianapolis. It is obvious, indeed", from the various Highways, which will hereafter meet here, that it must derive importance from the accumulation of travelling alone; but, when it is considered as the point of "depot for the produce to be shipped on the
Whitewater Canal, for a lage, rertue, and populous district of Indiana, and as a point of transit for merchandise, to be distributed through the country, North, and West, by Rail Roads, it becomes not iuferior i.i its advantages to any of the inland towns in the United States. Sale will be positive. Title good. TERMS LIBERAL, and will be made known before the day of Sale. Special inducements will be offered to Mechanics and actual Settlers, to whom great facilities are offered, in the expenditure at this point, ol lsrgo sums of money, on the National Road, Canal, and Basins.
