AMERICAN. BBOOKVILLE, IX DIANA. FRIDAV, OCT. 8, 1833' Ditlrict Judge of Indiana Jesse L. Holm an, ,f Aurora, Dearborn Co. Ind. has been appointed It the President, District Judge of Indiana, in the place of Judge Parke, deceased. At this appointnent, we were a little surprised. We have always considered Judge Holman, an uprightand konorable man, ana a consistent opposer of the present administration. If Mr. Holman has not fompromited his dignity in obtaining the office of Judge, we are well pleased with the appointment Hat irom w nat we nave heard we fear "there is Kmething rotten in the State of Denmark." We tope not. .Yiotirt. We have at last learned the result of Ihe Congressional election in this State. The majority of Ashlej and Birch, (Opposition,) over liartison and Strother, (Van Burcn) was 126 votes This is some evidence that Van Buren cannot get Missouri. Secretary of Michigan again The Globe of the ISthult. announces the appointment by the President of the United States, John S. Horner of Virginia, to be Secretary of the territory of Michigan it the place of Charles Sha!er declined. We understand that Mr. Horner has accepted the appointment, and has repaired to Michigan to enter pon Uie discharge of his duties.

; I of Governor has been performed by the Sec 1 for about a year, still no Governor is appoint:. Mr. Horner, instead of taking the place of Ury, hit to take the station of Governor. - fl. (7-Ve have received a communication fapt. J. Woods, in reply to the communicatid. ear last, but we were absent from our post til it was too late for this paper. It was hand . how ,. ny ii.bot the compositors engaged in the office dicl' , . ot like to put it in type until the editor passed stntence upon it. When the editor examined it, it was too late for this paper. We think it will tppeir in our next. Our absence from home will also be our excuse for the bareness of the editorial column. COMMUXICATIOS'S. far the lmcriean. TO THE PUBLIC. Again, most unwillingly, do I appear before von, ut duty to myself prompts, and justice to others requires, me to correct some erroneous statements now abroad calculated to injure others as well as wysclt. Ithas been said that I have been induced to bewme a candidate for the Senate by a few individualism Brookvilie, not for the purpose of being elected.but to insure the election of another. As to this, permit me to remark, that I have, at no time, had a moment s conversation with any individual in Brookvilie concerning the election, (G. W. Kimble Meentcd, who advised me t i withdraw.) I was urged by citizens of other townships, and permitted my name to be used. It was inserted in the Amer'n at the request ofa citizen of Snrinsrneld. I o the charge of holding a poll for the purpose of defeating Col. Hutchen, 1 would observe that it is wholly untrue. I have ever been his friend, and at the last election voted a "single shot" for him, and used every exertion in his behalf against one that I look upon as my brother, and over one who was an id and tried friend of my decased father. ngiu, appeal to.nr. Hutchen himself, not inform him in the state of Ohio prior to any other person's coming out, that I was a te. I did. and he never intimated that he I Agiin, i appeal to Mr. Hutchen himself, if I did to his or a candid- ' h.lfl Anv intention of becoming such. Hence I consider, if ither came out to defeat the other, he must have eome out to defeat me. I do not believe that he had that ooject solely in view. He, Mr. Con well, and m. ' Presumei entered the lists for the purpose or being elected.if possible, and to defeat all others. I he office is one for which I am not particularly anxious. It is honorable, not lucrative. The compensation is a consciousness of a faithful discharge oiduty. In conclusion, I am in the hands of my mends It is not my desire to create discord or to ngemier unpleasant sensations.
