A M E IM C A N.. DIIOOICTILLU, IM)I AM, FRIDAY, NOV. S3, 1834. (tj-On next Monday the Legislature of this 8tte, and the Congress of the United States, will souvene. We shall use our exertions to give our renders the latest, and a correst condans 3d account ef the proceedings of these great men, te whom has Vvacoofided the trust of making laws for the Teopl. Ths Ecumb. On Sunday next, if the day should be clear, we shall have the pleasure of seeing grand celestial phenomena the eclipse othe yu. This will be the last time that more than l.alf of those who now inhabit the earth, will ever tnjoy this magnificent spectacle. Because, if the calculations of astronomers be correct, and we have no reason to doubt them, more than half of that vast multitude, who will on next Sunday, view with eager gaze, this phenomena of nature, will be mouldering in the dust, before it will again occur. It will be thirty five years before the inhabitants of Ibt IT. S. will again sse an eclipse on the Sun. Nile's Register states that the state debt of Pennsylvania, about twentyrthre e million of dollar; to which the additional sum of jSe hundred thousand is to be added in repair of public works. The annual interest on this sum amounts to one - million four hundred and tighty-ont thousand dollars. Still Pennsylvania is a rich ana independent state; and why, because she has six hundred miles of Canal and Rail Raods belonging to the 8UU. BANK CHARTER. Tha following rethcrsingular section is found in or State Bank Charter. 4'Sec. 16. The person administering t!it government of this state, Secretary of State. Treasurer, Auditor of Public Account?, Commissioner of the. Canal Fund, Judge of the Supreme or any inferior court, or any person holding an office or appointment under the authority of the General Government, shall not, while in such office, hold the office of president of the State Hank, director of the Slate Bank, or president, director or cashier of any branch, nor that of a member of the General Assembly; nor shall any president, cashier or director of any branch at the same time hold the office of president or director of the estate Hank, on the part oi the state, or the office of president, director or cashier of another branch. Now, according to "our construction" of the foregoing section, no person, holding an office or appointment under the authority of the General Government, can ba a member of the Legislature, thus excluding Pout Masters. We believe we have several Post Masters in the present Legislature, who, according to this charter, cannot take their seats. It appears to us.too, that a Bank Charter is rather a strange place to look for qualifications for State Legislators. This Charter must be some thing like Gimmy Ray's ''codification, which would if commensurate with the multifarious concerns of mankind," a kind of "omnium gatherum." But, nererthelefs, we approve of the law, even under ur own construction. Hooi!! -For the, last three weeks our cyea have been greeted with Scarce any thing, except al droves of the swinish-multitude. Within that time, "from our own idea of things," and from the cal culations of others.there must have passed through this place, upwards of THIRTY THOUSAND HOGS; all winding there way to Cincinnati, the greatest hog market, we venture to say in the known world. All these hogs are from a small ction of this State- We are told by the oldest ettlers, that there never were as many hogs drove through this place in one year, before, as has been ithin the last three weeks. Some day's it seemdai if the vast arena of nature's store house was Ild with Hogs. We are gratified to be able to state, that the first nstalment of subscriptions of stork was punc tually paid in, at each of the ten Branches. The Loard was still in session, last evening, when our paper was put to press. Five miles of the canal arc now ready for navigation, and an additional portion oto or IU miles will be rilled in a few days. fort IVaynt Sentinel, Aov. 15. Rhode Island. The Legislature of this State adjourned ou Saturday last, after a ses sion of one week. On the last day, n proposition was made by the Assembly to met the Senate in joint ballot for the choice of a U. S. Senator, which was rejected. It is said that the "Whigs would have succeeded in electing Hon. Albert C. Greene by a majority of one (Greene 42, Potter 28, Sprague 13.) I Ins is of course suppositious; but the fact that the Administration party did not choose to lt their strength on the question would seem to indicate that their own estimate did not differ materially from the above. A scries of resolutions was introduced before the close of the session, bearing upon the course of the General Administration, and censuring especially the course cf the Exe cutive in relation to the distribution ol the proceeds of Public Lands, to the deposition of the public treasure, and censuring in general terms the alleged usurpations of the President. The resolutions were severally paed by ma jorities of 15 to 25 votes, but returned non-con curred in by the Senate. A Yankee Editor excuse for lack of Editorial.
