POETRY, " And such poetry too As vroulirdrcg angels dow n from their lolly teats.' The following communication was left at this office last week, whic h .we promised the author to publish, if, upon examination, we should consider it worthy insertion. On first perusing it, we came to the determination not to publish, deeming: it unworthy the room it would occupy. But upon reconsidering the subject we have placed it in oureolumns, as a specimen of the weakness of man, and the erroneous notions possessed
in a greater or less decree by all, who are capable of
o r - putting their ideas in black and white The author cannot expect lenity from us, or from the public, because it is his maiden attempt in wooing the eacrcd nil. In the true sense of the nature and spirit of Fretry, the following jumbling of words
no-nt h,-r. u-itfmiit either sense or rhyme, is foreign to
such a 'appellation. But still wcv place it it our pa
per, to lethyii6eeliow very far it falls beneath even he common doggerel used by moon-struck lovers, or
maddened politicians. Had Mr. A Fed' addressed
a few lir.es to Lis mistress' eye-brows, or taken up
the Removal of the Depcsites, or the visit of the Hon II. Clav to the East, we could overlook it as an at
tempt of an ignoramus, lhat could do no belter. Butthe loftiness of the subject, and the childish manner in which he treats it, is without precedent in the history of poetry, destitute of a redeeming principle, or a pal
liating circumstance. But, here it is, word for word, as it is in the origi
nil. We have taken the trouble to correct his false
Orthography, and punctuated it as well as we could
from our feeble comprehension of the subject, and still less of the peculiarly-worded ideas he has brought into
use. For his edification, wc make a remark or two at
the close of each verse: Written for the Indiana America a. TYRANNY. Wnrns shall I go to'find the plarc, That Tyranny docs not disgrace! For as I stroll through Freedom's plains, I seo you therein fotflet stains; Sometimes I think it very strange. To sec your trace in town and grange.
In the above there is nothing very learned: even c childof ordinary talent would delineate the'foul stains of Tyranny, arid 'trace' it with as much aeulcness. Of all things that I yet have seen, Yon, Tyranny, the worst have been; And then you arc so very bold, You neither stop for heat nor cold. But alwrysliavc the start of rac, And oft times do not wait to see. Now, wc ennnot perceive any crime should be attached to the 'boldness' of cold, inanimate Tyranny" The torrid, temperate, and frgid zones, never h.no. as we know, any effect upon things lifeless in the abstract. How our author discovered that Tyranny got the 'start' of him we do not perceive his sagacity l as not been very great, or he would rind t hat ha is not the founder of the theory. You tell your dupes tint you're the meed, And always sure to take the lead, You tell the school-hoy he should rule, Just take his course and play the fool; . To fight his way in the good cause, And not be ruled by tutor's laws. Fervid, indeed, must be the languaga ofTyrsnny to its 'poor dupes.' Tell him next he'll be a man, ." Before that e'en Ins mtMr c::" (Smart!) That heroism is the OV. st (Njosft That ever graced a mortal's naW, How, if we would great burels win. Youth is the time wc should begin! . What kind of hnroism' and 'laurels' tha youth is to 'win' by beinjrJjiian before his mother," the reader is left to infer. Tulpgrace' of undefined 'heroism' is painted indennitelynd with 'considerably puerile payings.' If father and I hold conversation,
What urges on his usurpation?
I'll tell you now, my friends take care, Of the great fountain that disembogues there. fe A FED. Hero, verily, are far-fetched and very unpoetic
ideas. Though the ends of the Jmes gmgte a nttie after the manner of poetry, still it is far from partaking of its genuine essence. Disembogues? for instance, is a very unpoetic word, and by the way destitute of that smooth, sweet flow of language, which
characterizes Poetry.
Thus, wc have "printed your poetry," Mr. A PED-
cffpgitc, and as your friend, and as a patron and encoura"cr of ris'iiT Genius, we seriously admonish you
never an-ain to mount your "Pegassus," until you
have studied the rules of gr immer and laws of versi
fication, or foel yourself "filled up" with "thoughts that breathe, and words that barn," which you possi
bly may feel in the second stage of a protracted Lovefever, after experiencing a series of disappointments.

LA MOTT'S COUGH DROPS. Valuable Medicines forCouglis & Consumptions. rHlIIS Elixir is peculiarly adapted to Ha present Ja. prevailing disorders of the breast and lungsjeading toconsumption. Common colds and coughs, which are occasioned by obstructed perspiration, will readily yield to its influence, removing those troublesome irritations, which act as a constant stimulant to coughing. It eases pain, and induces rest to an eminent degree. Persons afflicted with pulmonary complaints bleeding of the lungs, &c. spasmodic asthma, palpita
tion of the heart, and consumptive affections, even in the most advanced periods of life, will find immediate relief, from its remarkable power of diminishing the
irritability of the system, and the velocity of the circu
lation, and by cleansing and healing the disordered parts. It also affords immediate relief in the hooping cough.
Cony of a teller from Dr. J. C. Rennet, ttafed Circleville, June 20'-' Jlessrs Crosbys I have the plea 10 state to you
the salutary effects in manvs'es' which I have wit
nessed in the use of yf excellent Cough urops. as a medicine in those diseases for which it is highly re-
COniWn"cu, jt cupula nut iy iiavv a ottuaiLiuic ui un equal. " In my practice, since I received of
you proxy to sell tlicm, l have administered tnem in some cases of Phthisis Pulmonaa and of Spasmodic
t'Ahma, and in general found that they produced re-
lfie when other pectoral medicines in high repute, had slaild to produce any perceptible effect. In common coughs and colds, I presume I may say, that they are
not only sovereign, but also an immediate remedy; at
eaast so far immediate, as any medicine can be so call
ed, in regard to the time required for operation. It
certainly must be obvious, that the evils of those dis
eases winch these drops were designed to cure, will be lessened in proportion to their more extensive use.
This may wear the appearance-of hypothesis, as as
sertions of medicines often do; but when authenticat
ed by so many experiments all producing the same sal
utary results, we are divested of doubt m their use, and unclouded certainty. Yours respccfullv.

VEGETABLE RHEUMATIC DROPS, or CERTAIN REMEDY. "JIS'ANY articles are before the public, as a cure for 11M. that obstinato and most tormenting disease, the Rheumatism, and from close observation, we are led to believe they have to a very great extent, failed to produce the desirable result; and may it not be attributable to the fact, that arttcles said to cure this troublesome disorder, are also recommended to cure almost every disease with which our frail bodies are attacked, and in their preparation that object is kept in view, viz: to have the medicine a cure for all diseases. The Vegetable Rheumatic Drops are offered to the public as a sure remedy for chronic or inflam-' matory Rheumatism; and as no case is known where a perfect cure was not effected, we are justified in declaring it a valuable medicine forthat painful disease and for no other is it recommended. I am happy to have it in my power to offar to the world a remedy, that will not only remove the pain, nine times out of ten, if properly applied, but preserve the teeth from further decay, and arrest the disease in such as are decaying and have not commenced aching, restoring them to health and usefulness. CERTIFICATES. Mr. Thomas White I have the pleasure to inform you, that agreeably to your request, I have been using your Toothache Drops in my practice for some time past, and I must acknowledge that I find them far superior to any thing I have ever yet known for that purpose. You are perfectly safe in recommending them to cure nine times out often; for from the success I have had, 1 believe your recommendation falls short of their merits. I am well convinced that it will cure most cases of Toothache when it is timely and properly applied. I am not prepared to speak of its preservative properties; but what I have seen of your teeth that have long been cured and preserved from decaying and from a few weeks experience, I am decidedly of tho opinion that it will have a beneficial effect in pre-., serving the teeth; and recommend it, hoping that it . may prove a blessing to humanity, and advantagcou to yourself. With respect, I remain yours, &c. WM. I. A. BIRKEY, Surgeon jpesris'v Philadelphia, September 12, 18S2. . To the Public. Sometime in May, Dr..
