LIFE WAS MISERABLE UNTIL UVURA BROUGHT RELIEF Livuka Mfg.Co.: Gentlemen : Ever since I could remember I have suffered with sick headaches, which would come on at frequent intervals, and were so severe that I would be obliged to take to my bed. Never at any time was I ;entiroly tree from headache, and I really did not know what it was to bo without them. For years I felt all tired out and run down. Whenever I would have one of my sick turns they would be accompanied by hot flashes and pains all ihrougli my back that made me perfectly miserable. I took medicine after medicine, but could obtain no relief. During the past summer I tried PITCHER’S UVURA, and it has done me a great deal of good. I am free from the incessant headache and heavy feeling which troubled me so much, and, as for the sick headaches, I have not had one for months. MEN WE ALL KNO. BY JOSH BILLINGS. New York Weekly. The Slo Man. —The slo man waz born so. and if he should be born asjin it would not inkrease hiz speed a bit, He iz like the mudturkle, very ■sure-footed, and when he ffits in a grate hurry he kant git ahed at all. He ain’t lazy, but quite often iz az bizzy az a bee, but he iz so slo that it iz painful to see him do ennything. He tires out all the tools he works with. The slo man iz generally a goodnatured phellow, and invariably haz a good appetight. The most distressing scene I ever witnessed iz to see one ov these people saw wood; it iz wuss than murder; it will fairly stop the eirkulashum ov a man’s blood to look at him. I kant tell whot makes him so slo mentally and fisickally; he seems to be all right, but just az soon az he begins to stir beseems to congeal. I pity the slo man, for it iz alwuss harder work to hold back than it iz to pull. The Quick Man.—He iz az nervous az n hornet, and az sudden az a ghost. He iz like the prevarikating flea — now you see him and now you don't; and when you want him the most you find that he haz been thare, and just gone. He iz just the other way from the slo man and will tire you out to watch him. He goes from one thing to another, like the humming bird, and generally haz more hurry than dispatch. Sumtimes hiz executive ability iz equal to the steam he carys, and then he iz the phenomenon ov the world. The quick man allwus duz hiz work eazy, so eazy that sumtimes he haz to do it over agin. The Sharp Man.—The sharp man iz like a thissell —allwus the right end up for biziness. He iz like a wasp out on a lark—reddy to sting enny one. He iz no respekter ov persons, and will bite into his brother ez deep and quick az into a stranger. He may be an honest man, but he kant prove it by enny one. He iz just az different from the shrewd man az cunning iz from wisdom, or turpentine iz from sweet ile. The sharp man never suckceeds in thelong run, and generally ends in being too dishonest to be trusted bi enny one. To Cleanse the System Effectually yet gently, when costive or billons or when the blood is impure or sluggish, to permanently cure habitual constipation, to awaken the kidneys and liver to a healthy activity, without irritating or weakening them, to dispel headachss, colds or fevers, use Syrup of Figs. Sappho, the poetess, was not a wan ton beauty, nor did she throw herself from the Leucadean cliff to be cured of an unworthy love. The latest investigations prove her a respectable married woman with a large family, whom she raised with as much care as a Greek matron usually gave her children. Queen Elizabeth was not the angelic creature represented in the histories and poems of her own times. Her hair was red, her temper redhot. She sometimes drank too much and at any provocation would curse like a trooper. She frequently swore at her maids, and sometimes struck, kicked and pinched them. Value o£‘ liOiiiuu oiuvce, St. Louis Globe-Democrat. It is very curious to read in an old Roman history of the prices paid-for slaves in the palmy days of the Empire. As a general thing, a laborer could be bought for about $80 of our money, but after a province had been conquered or a great victory won, hundreds would sometimes be bought for $5 or $10 apiece. After the siege of Jerusalem by Titus, the price of slaves fell to $4. Skilled laborers and artisans brought more. A gardener was worth about $300, a blacksmith $700, a good cook brought $2,500, an actor or actress $5,000, and a physician $10,000; Hot broad for breakfast is regarded as a necessity throughout the South, and the, best Southern cooks understand the art of preparing this luxury so that it shall do the minipium of harm to the stomach of the consumer. The protean corn bread is in large measure depended upon to furnish the breakfast table, and it is a difficult matter to make that compound anything but wholesome. Wheaten bread, however, is prepared by the best Southern cooks so that it shall be quickly cooked, light hot, and yet done through and through so that nobody is forced to throw away the middle and eat merely tlie crusts.
