CORRESPONDENCE. Sayings and Doings of Onr Country Cousins Briefly Narrated. HARTSVILLE. Pliny Wolfard spent Friday in Columbus. Miss Teresa Ryan has returned homo from Indianapolis. Mrs. Dr. Smalley transacted business in Hope on Friday. Protracted meeting is still in progress at the M. E. church. Mrs. Kinsley is very poorly at present as she is about to lose her sight. Elias Mahaffey has moved into the properly formerly occupied by Mr. Welcher. The G. A. R. will give an entertainment and oyster supper here on the night of Fob. 22d. Lee Ziegler has moved to Elizabethtown and will resume his business as butcher at that place. Clint Lawrence gave an oyster supper to a number of his friends at his house on College street, on Friday evening. Mi's. J. Anderson, who resides south of town, and has been very ill for some time past, is very low at this writing, and there is no hope of her recovery. Miss Margaret I. Dickson, of Indianapolis, lectured Eriday night in |he interest of the W. C. T. U. While here she organized a Y. W. C. T. U. consisting of twenty-seven members. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: Miss Alice Poulk, president; Jessie Himes, vice-president; Hattie Clapp, corresponding secretary; Carrie Stout, recording secretary; May Wolfard, superintendent of literature; Mary Blume, treasurer. CLIFTY. [Received too lute for last week]. Mr. and Mrs. Will Stark, near Hope, visited his- mother and sisters last Wednesday. Lewis Blades and Mr. Freeman Harker attended the masonic lodge at this place Saturday night. Uncle Jesse Stafford, who was thought to be improving, is suffering from a relapse, and is still poorly. Mrs. Holmes went up to Clarksburg last week to spend a few days with relatives and friends in that community. Mr. and Mrs. John Messenheimer, of Columbus, came up last Tuesday, and were the guests of relatives and friends until Friday. Mrs. Mary Eward visited relatives and friends here the first of the week. Mrs. Eward is a great worker in the church and did much good while here. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Lambert and family, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Oza Butler, attended church here last Sabbath, and were entertained at dinner by Mrs. Mary Blades. The protracted meetings which arc being held at the M. E. church during the past week are increasing in interest. Although there has been no accessions, the membership is being greatly revived. [From another correspondent.] Ed Barnes and Will Koer returned home last week for a short visit. Earl Little of Indianapolis is visiting relatives and friends at this place. Misses Dora Butler and Tippie Carter spent Sunday with Ora Tremble and wife, Mrs. Jake Grant of this place has been seriously ill for some time and is but little bettor. The entertainment at Adams, Friday night was quite a success, and was well attended. Francis Galbraith and family of Burneys, spent Saturday and Sunday, with his father-in-law, Frank Butler and family. To freeze water on a small scale take a concave watch glass, touch the convex side upon water so as to leave a drop hanging on the glass. Pour a little ether into the concave and blow upon it. The rapid evaporation of the ether will render theglass so cold that the drop of water will be frozen.
