It i& gratifying to know that as time rolls on and the-ranks of the veterans are thinning all our people are falling into line, and with one accord unite on May 30th in payiisg respect to their illustrious dead. Nineteen car-loads oS cattle, shipped by Columbus parties, passed through here last Monday on their way to New York. Henry S. Rominger and lady went to Minneapolis yesterday to be in attendance at the National convention. Henry is alternate delegate. A large consignment of electioneering documents (agricultural reports) was received through the mails here last Tuesday from George W. Coopen, L. S. Fishel & Bro.. request us testate that they have received 5,000 pounds of binder twine and are underselling all competitors. Go see them before you buy. Among the HartsvSle comrades who attended memorial’services here last Sunday were Rominger, Christ, Robertson and Yost. Boys, come again. Your presence always makes us happy as memory reverts to the days of old.
The ladies of the Christian church will give- a strawberry and ice cream festival in the room formerly occupied by Spaugh & Norman, on Washington street, Saturday evening, June 4th. Doors open at 4 o’clock. Admission, 5 cents. Philip- Spaugh buried a five-year old girl for John Moore, at Pleasant Grove;. last Monday afternoon. This makes the second child Jo ha has buried inside the last week,, both deaths resulting from that dread! disease,, diptheria. The many friends of Mrs. Walter' Walker, who lives just over the line in Shelby county, will be glad to know that she-is recovering from her long and serious illness. It’s rather late in; the season, but taking the weather of the past few weeks into consideration, we’d rather risk corn planted, this week for a: good crop than at any time this spring.
The largest single block of stones ever quarried and shipped in theUnited States was quarried at Bedford, Ind., and shipped to New York: last week. The block was 12 ft. 8: dn. long, 6 ft., 3 in. high,. 6 ft. 3 inwide, contained 500 cubic feet and: weighed 100,000 pounds. While the wheat has been injured somewhat by the long 1 continued wet weather, prospects for- a wheat crop have never- averaged bettor in ourrecollection.
