OUR POULTRY-RAISERS. It may not generally be known that wehave several quite extensive poultry raisers in this township, but such is’dhe ease. Among the'number Mr. Lije and 'his son-in-law, Gilbert'Dcnnison, are probably ahead, having raised about eight hundred last year and have now -on hand about the same number of this year’s hatch, of which they made their first shipment last week. They rim two incubators. 'Mrs. Ben Essex raises and sells several hundred chickens annually. Charles Anderson runs two incubators arid at the present time has on hand probably six hundred of this spring’s hatch. Mr. Dennison and Mr. Anderson are both perfect geniuses and manufactured both their incubators and brooders. The McKinley bill,by placing a protective tariff on chickens, has done wonders for this branch of 'buisness and makes it possible for any farmer to make as much off of five acres of land in poultry as he can by tilling twenty times that number of acres with ten times the labor. Seaward at morn my doves flew free; At eve-they circled back to me. The first was Faith, the second Hope, The third—the whitest—Charity. Above the plunging surge’s play Dreamlike they hovered day by day. At last they turned and bore to mo Green signsof peace through nightfaltgray. No shore forlorn, c-o loveliest land Their gentle eyes had left unspanned, ’Mid hues of twilight heliotrope Orday break fires by heaven-breath fanned. Quick visions of- celestial grace Hither they waft from earth’s broad space, Kind thoughts of all humanity. They shine with radiancc'from God’s face. Ah, since my.heart they choose for home, 'Why loose them—forth again to roam? Yet look; they risel With loftier scope They wheel "in flight toward Heaven’s pure dome. The Indian Is Waiting* The East Indian waits patiently: he is weary of the old theories and old promises: he looks out with sad and quiet eyes; he could rise to worship and to act. There is fire behind the quiet -gaze, and he seems to-ask, “Tell mo of an object worthy of admiration.” In reply the government often offers “shows;” the missionaries always offer Christ.—Nine-teenth-Century, Mrs. George Walters is visiting relatives at Burney’s. Loss, about $100. Daniel Worth and lady, of Falmouth, are now the proprietors of the large undertaking establishment on the west side of -the square. They are both expert errbalmers. In -vain we have tried to learn the names of the two little girls who on Wednesday night bore to our office those delicious samples of -cake, as tokens of friendship from -the -Bed Men. However, little girls, you and the friendly order you so nobly’represented have our regards. The Republican received a pleasant call from three of our most estimable ladies, Misses Sue White and Mary George land Mrs. C. M. Handley, on Thursday evening. We are always gratified to receive calls from the ladies, and they will please call again. Some of -our boys were sporting their silk plugs last Sunday. That’s right, boys; just as well be dead as out of style, and there is nothing more becoming than a mice silk hat. The average '‘dude” hat -looks about •as btylish and comfortable a last year’s bird’s tiest. On account of a pecuniary exj perience that we wish some one else had in our place, we have been forced into buying a new press and outfit and assuming the management of this paper. Unexpected as this change hews been to us, you ard authorized to say to your neighbor that the Republican has come to stay. A religious revival of unusual proportions even for that hot-bed of Christianity Las been in progress at the M. E. church in St. Louis for the past two weeks. Rev.
