At Goshen, I ml., nine jirominent Republicans, many of whom have been Republican officials, and one who is now a Republican county official, have abandoned that party and are now supporting Bryan ami free silver—this is a fair sample of the tide that is turning in favor of Democracy all over the country. The situation at present indicates that the gold bug Republicans are determined to continue in their effort to press the crown of thorns upon the brow of labor, and crucify it upon a cross of gold, but their effort will be in vain. The free coinage of silver volets will reject the Republican platform and defeat the gold bug ticket at next November election. Ik the American people do as the Republican party advises and as the Republican platform proclaims, Lombard Street, London, and Wall Street, New York, will jointly direct and manage our money system. The issue before the people is : A sound monetary system of our own, under supervision of American laws, as advocated by the Democratic party ; or a monetary system dictated by England, under the supervision of the money kings of Wall street and Lom-

bard street.

groomed to make a number of speech es during tlie campaign—why not have a joint discussion of the issue. We feel safe in guaranteeing that William J. Bryan will be pleased to meet McKinley on the platfoam and

divide time with him.

If a single gold standard, as declared in the Republican platform is a good taing, why do they also declare, in the same platform, in favor < f international bimetallism? Is this last declaration a hid for that support of Wall and Lombard street, which the Republican party is now getting?

Among the notable political changes are Hon. J. A. Bingham, of Ohio, from Republicanism to Bryan and free silver.' Hon. A. A. Lewis, of Somerset, Ky., has made a similar change. Ex-Congressman Cheadle, of this State, is also out for Bryan and free silver, and Ex-Congressman Jehu Baker, of Illinois has done likewise, and so has Ex-Congressman Doorman, of Ohio. The Telegram, of Anderson, and the Herald, of Garrett, Indiana, formerly Republican newspapers, are now advocating the elec-

tion of Bryan and Sewell.

The managers of the Democratic campaign in Indiana have determined to nominate candidates for State Senator in a number of senatorial districts in which there are Republican “hold-over” Senators elected in 1810. The Democratic managers hold that, under the recent decision of the Supreme Court of this State, there are no de jute senators, and that the holdovers are but de facto members and their successors should he elected this fall, thus choosing fifty instead of twenty-five members of the senate, fn explaining tlie situation Senator Turpie says: “The senate of Indiana is the judge of the election and qualification of its own members. The State Senate may be or may not be hound by the decision of the supreme court. Tlie nominating and running of candidates in the holdover districts is a measure of precaution merely, so lhat in case the senate of Indiana declines to follow the decision of the Supreme Court and decides that elections can be held in the holdover districts the persons elected could tak» their seats. In most of the instances where this has been done the Democratic candidates are the same persons who were elect-

Ik the advocacy of free silver coinage is anarchy then it is evident that Blaine was an anarchist when alive, and that McKinley is the living tmlodiment of anarchy, for he was a constant advocate of free silver coinage before his Presidential candidacy padlocked his mouth. From Knox county, Indiana, comes a report that ten Republicans met together a few days ago, to attend to some neighborhood business, and that a canvass of the votes showed that eight of them were for Bryan and free silver, and two were for McKinley and the single gold standard.

Every Democrat and free silver supporter should remember, and keep before their friends and neighbors tlie fact that the Republican party is favorable to hard times, and declares in its national platform that : “We are opposed to the free_’coinage of silver. * * The existing gold standard must he preserved.” The Banner-Times devotes a whole editorial page to the Star-Press, lor which wc are thankful, especially i s the attempt to controvert our statements was entirely unsuccessful, e'en though so much space was consumed. The B.-T. is more noted for quantity than quality, in its editorial eolums, w hile it is a matter of surprise to its readers if it occasionally commits the indiscretion of telling tlie truth.

One of the leaders among the Democratic gold bugs of Minnesota, at tlie Chicago convention, was the editor of the Le Sueur Sentinel, but the object letson received was so impressive that he saw tlie error of his way and came over to the side of tlie people. Last week lie said editorialy : “Thtre i- one tiling regarding the wonderful spread of the “silver craze” as it is called by our friends the gold believers, and that is this, it has gained its supremacy in spite of the fact that almost the entire press of the country large and small has all the time been advocating the “gold” theory. Why the hankers of New York are today sending to every country newspaper that will use them, plate matter furnished free of cost, which advocates the single or gold standard. And yet in spite of the bankers, in spite of the press, daily and weekly, tlie sentiment in favor of “free silver” has eon tinued to grow with rapidly which is absolutely marvellous and which bids fair to sweep the continent from ocean to ocean, and lake to gulf, bringing the common people into its army, for, be it a fallacy or he it truth, the common people believe that the theory of finance adopted by the bankers is for their own and not for the common people's interest.
