In the practice tests made by the Greencubtle fire department, Tuesday evening, excellent time was made. They hitched the horses, ran 100 yds., attached the hose to the lire plug and threw water in 51: seconds. The Crawfordsville base hall team were here on Wednesday, with the intent and purpose of wiping up the earth with the Greencastle club. place the safe on the dray, the vehicle ran forward, allowing ihe skuis to drop to the ground, and the safe fell with thorn. Frank, son of George Davidson, was assisting in the work, and when the safe fell, he was caught under it, and it was thought for a time that he had received fatal injuries. Ho lay under the safe, one side of which rested on the ground and the other on an 8x8 wooden sill. This was very close quarters, more especially as Davidson lay in a “doubled up” or crooked position. Speedy timo was made in effecting his release, Dr. Bence securing a piece of timber, and with assistance, succeeded in prying up the safe sufficiently to permit the removal of Davidson from under it. The injured man was carried into tho Doctor’s office, where restoratives were applied and an examination made. He soon recovered consciousness, and it was found that no bones were broken, and there were no symptoms of serious internal injury. At this writing Davidson is up and about and feels hut little eifects of the accident. Perry Miller had the end of his little finger crushed off while ho was assisting in taking the safe off of Davidson, and when the safe fell both

Initiated.

The “Skulls” initiated their new members, on Tuesday night. It was fun for he iuitiatees but tough on initiators. The novices were taken to the woods, to a dark and noisome hollow, blind-folded and hound with sash cord. After admonition and instruction they were gridironed, marked with nitrate ofsilver, branded with a chunk of ice, had their hair blacked and their boots oiled; they were then released from the gridirons, still bound, and on their

bended knees took the obligation of

They wete told that the discipline they had received was to stiffen their back bones and brighten their intellects. They then received Hie lecture from the (thief Sexton, the burden thereof being that they should be careful not to betray the mode of initiation or secrets of the frat to any not members of the Order of Death, and they were exhorted to be constant in their endeavors to hook on to tender-feet for next June’s round up. Again they wore blind-folded, seated in a circle, with a “death's head” in the center, and instructed to sit in silent meditation until the “crack of doom” was heard, which would take place in from 2 to 3 minutes. A cannon fire cracker’s fuse was then set on fire; the initiators scampered to their vehicles, and when the newly made members heard tho crack of doom and tore the bandages from their eyes, they discovered that they had
