DISMISS CHARGES AGAINST SIMMONS

'-—'Henry County Court Acts in Vandenbark Guardian Case In iSa?H

Which Removal of Guardian Is Asked.

Hostilities, vilification, recrimina«tion and several other things proved to be an interesting diversion in the circuit court this morning, when the

Mose Vandenbark case was up for another round, says Saturday's New Castle Daily Times. Continuing the Times says: Some time ago Mrs. Vandenbark filed a petition asking that John B. Simmons, the guardian of her husband, be removed. She listed thirteen different reasons why Simmons should be removed.

Attorney for Simmons filed a motion to strike from the court records and files the petition of Mrs. Vandenbark. There was filed there with an affidavit by Simmons de-

nying each and every allegation in the petition, which as a whole cast reflections upon the guardian and therefore upon the court, and attorneys employed by him.

O. J. Boulden, who says he is an attorney and lives in Indianapolis, acknowledged to the court that he drafted the petition for Mrs. Vandenbark and then admitted afterwards that he drew the petition, but did not know that the allegations he included were untrue. He was taken to task for casting reflections and was subjected to a scathing arraignment by Ed Jackson, one of the attorneys employed by Simmons. For a time it looked like there was going to be a four or five round go and several of the spectators were disappointed when nothing of the kind happened. Judge Gause interfered in the argument several times and directed several very pointed remarks to Mr. Boulden.

Charles Swain, also for Mrs. Vandenbark, tried to pose as a peacemaker, and poured a little oil on the troubled waters.

The upshot of the whole business ended in the court sustaining the i-i. motion to strike the case from the records and thus stopped litigation which would have been detrimental to the estate. The whole thing, in the estimation of the court, wTas a direct result of a family quarrel.

GOING! GOING! SOLD!!

Col. W. I. Burnside Heads the List of Hancock County Auslioneers.

y&There is an auctioneer who is gaining such prestige in Hancock county at such a rate that his dates for the year are being filled with great rapidity. During the month of February alone his bookings called for more sales than there were days in the month and his list for the future already includes dates so far ahead as late next year. People generally have realized that he obtains for them the highest rices for their goods. His knowledge of the general public is of such a nature and his acquaintance is so large that he is able in an instant to close sales with people who are good financially. This avoids the usual troubles of bad notes and refusals to take away goods for which cash must be paid on day of sale. This auctioneer is Col. W. I. Burnside, of Greenfield.

Col. Burnside has made a study of stock of foreign and domestic strains and conducts sales of stock in a scientific and business like manner. This is quite an element in the sale business and must not be overlooked when a sale is to be pulled off. His reputation along this line is not only known here in Hancock county, but throughout this section of the country.

He has a tent which is forty by eighty feet, under which has been conducted some of the largest stock sales around here and which is always at the disposal of the man who engages Col. Burnside. This popular auctioneer is a progressive business man and never overlooks an opportunity to give his patrons the best there is.

Col. Burnside, by the reasonableness of his charges, the uniform good service that he renders, his genial and wholesouled personality has built up a reputation for himself that makes him one of the leading auctioneers not only in Greenfield, but in adjoining states. During the past year he has made sales in several different states.

c'7,I• Tomato Growing. The Wilkinson correspondent to The Daily Reporter, who spoke of the probability of a small tomato acreage in that community this year because of the overstocked VanCamp plant and the probability of the Shirley plant not operating, has the following ideas that seem good. He says the soil through that section is the very best for tomato growing and that this crop has brought more ready cash to the acre and at the same time left the soil more fertile than before the crop vvas grown. He says it would seem like a good investment for the tomato growers to erect a factory of their own, which could be very readily done by forming a stock company. In this way they would get both the growers' profit and the canners' profit would be independent of outside conditions.

Ad. Brings the Buyers. A man placed an advertisement in The Daily Reporter a few days ago for a horse to sell and had calls from thirty prospective buyers.

PURE AND WHOLESOME

Bakery Goods Are Furnished the People of Greenfield By L. H. Lahr's Bakery.

&tThere can be no questioning the fact that L. H. Lahr's bakery is one of the leading stores in Greenfield. The proprietor is one of those men who know that pure and wholesome bakery goods can only be evolved from pure and wholesome ingredients. The best on the market is none too good for him and hence his products are delicious and satisfying. He also appreciates the necessity of keeping his bakery clean and we defy any one to find an establishment so spotless.

In the bakery business as well as in any other, success is impossible to the inexperienced. One must know his business and that is why Lahr insists that his men be capable and efficient. He employs at times only the most experienced bakers who are thoroughly conversant with every feature of his trade. Therefore, when his bread, cakes, rolls, pies and other products come from the oven they are so near an approach to "the kind that mother used to bake"' that every customer is satisfied.

RELIABILITY

As to Quality of Goods and Fairness of Price Is Much to Be Desired When Buying Furniture.

The firm that enjoys a reputation for reliable and standard quality and fair prices is the one that will receive the largest patronage, even though competing concerns may offer what appear to be wonderful values at ridiculously low rates. It is for this reason that we refer you to A. H. Rottman when you are in search of furniture or other housefurnishings. The reputation of this firm extends throughout Hancock county, for it has long been known as one of the leading and most reliable business houses in Greenfield.

Mr. Rottman is an authority on furniture and from experience knows the business thoroughly. He is able to furnish every room in your house in every conceivable design. He can give you the settings of the Adam period, the designs of Louis XV, Early English, Mission—

ways working for Greenfield's prosperity.
