WELL DESERVED

The Praise That Comes From Thankful Greenfield People.

One kidney remedy has known merit. Greenfield people rely upon it.

That remedy is Doan's Kidney Pills. Greenfield testimony proves it reliable.

Mrs. Hettie Ellis, 120 Brandywine St., Greenfield, Ind., says: "I had attacks of kidney trouble for a number of years and I also had symptoms of dropsy. I suffered intensely from pains in my back and shoulders and" sometimes I was so weak that I could scarcely move. I had dizzy spells and my feet and ankles were so badly swollen at times that I could not wear my shoes. My whole body bloated and the seqretions from my kidneys were unnatural. Although I took medicine almost constantly, I continued to suffer and was at a loss to know what to do. One day I read a statement given by a party who had been cured of kidney complaint by Doan's Kidney Pills. This induced me to get a supply of this remedy at Quigley's Drug Store and begin using it. I was benefited from the first and by the time I had finished six boxes, the swelling and pain had gone. Some months later I had another slight attack of kidney complaint, but Doan's Kidney Pills promptly gave relief. I keep this remedy on hand and I know that it has been the means of prolonging my life. There are no words strong enough to express my praise of Doan's Kidney Pills."

For sale by all dealers. Price 50 cents. Foster-Milburn Co., Buffalo, New York, sole agents for the United States.

Operate on Horse.

Dr. J. W. Clottz, of Noblesville, a member of the faculty of the Indiana Veterinary College at Indianapolis, was in Greenfield Wednesday assisting Dr. Noble W. Elsbury perform a surgical operation on a valuable brood mare belonging to Samuel S. Bradley, of R. R. 2. The mare had been suffering from a bad tooth for four years. In order to remove the tooth which was much longer at the root than at the crown, it was necessary to make an incision just above the root of the tooth on the side of the upper jaw. After the incision was made the surgeons trephined into the bone above the tooth. Then they loosened with punch and then applied the tooth extractors and removed it. They found the tooth very much decayed at the root. The operation was a severely painful one, but the mare will soon be entirely recovered. Before the operation was performed the mare was in such condition that she could not be used much.

How will we ever be able to know what our forefathers have done, and the result of their actions and what our country might have been today, had it not been for their great and noble minds, if we do not study history. We will indeed never be able to appreciate the works of the great sculptors and artists if we do not study ancient history and literature. We may look at a painting that some great artist has made and feel no desire to know the artist and his character until we truly study literature.

Then we come to the practical side of education. An education for vocation is the most important. There is a time in each life when we say: "What am I going to do to make this old world better, and to enjoy it?"

Indeed, what can we do without the advantage of a good education? Everyone is aware that we cannot enter the business world that it is

necessary for those who wish to

Manual training and domestic science are being taken up in all the larger high schools and boys and girls should be very glad to get the advantage of this. We only wish that the boys and girls would think seriously on the subject of education, and not forget the advantages given to those who have an education and-the hard road for those who do not have it.

PlIKPOSE OF THE HIGH SCHOOL IN GENERAL

HALS ALL, Owner BR ATTAIN, Manager Greenfield, Indiana

Not only is it the privilege of every boy or girl to get a high school education, but it is a duty. How can we ever expect to gain laurels of praise in this world if we do not strive for them?

First, we may say for the gen-, eral culture, that we may be taught to realize the handiwork of the great immortal God even in the science of Botany. While studying the subject just mentioned, if we do nothing but get a higher conception of the Almighty, our work will not have been in vain. And, again, we are able to methodize our work that is, do our work by a method and not by haphazard fashion, as though we had a thousand lives to live and don't care for any of them.

Our mental powers are greatly developed by the study of language that is, we do not only get a better idea of our own language and the derivation of so many of our English words, but it gives us a larger vocabulary.

What is needed more in our every day life than power to reason? Even the poorest farmer must reason and see the result of his ac- $ tions under certain conditions. And therefore, the one subject taught in high school to develop those powers, is mathematics.
