CUMBERLAND.

The Ladies' Aid Society of the Baptist church met Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Will Fye for the election of officers.

Robert Johnson met with a painful accident last Thursday by having three of his fingers cut off at the Roach & Brown sawmill.

Mrs. Mary Ploenges and Mrs. Ellen Weise spent Saturday at Indianapolis.

The Baptist Sunday^ school |£will elect officers next Sunday. The Ladies Aid Society of the M. E. church will have a fair Dec. 17th at the Newhouse hall.

George Ricer and wife, of Valley Mills, were guests of D. T. Ricer |,Saturday and Sunday.

Maggie Harvey ..visited her sister, Mrs. Kate Fowler, of Indianapolis, Saturday.

The Baptist Sunday school will give a cantata Christmas night. The M. E. Sunday school will give their entertainment Xmas eve.

Clarence Hufford and wife, of Richmond, visited Adrian Shepherd and wife last week.

Mrs. Newhouse and Kittie Newhouse, of Lawrence, spent last Wednesday and Thursday with John Newhouse and wife.

Mrs. Will Fye, Mrs. John Newhouse and Maggie Harvey entertained the Ladies' Aid Society of the Baptist church on last Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Fye. Refreshments of sandwiches, coffee, salad, pickles and cake. Edith Amos gave two recitations. Nellie Amos gave some musical numbers on the piano and the Rev. Morris gave the Scripture reading and prayer. The collection was $4.50.

Carl Snider is on the sick list. I. H. Pope and wife spent last Saturday with Elmer Jackson and family.

There was a large attendance at the oyster supper at the Red Men's hall at Mohawk Saturday night.

Fva Pope called on Mrs. Ina Williams last Friday. Leon Wiley, wife and daughter, epent Sunday with I. H. Pope.

Mrs. William Kingery spent one day last week with her mother, Mrs. Ira Williams.

Herman Kfngery was out buying timber Monday. Mrs. Frank Pope is some better at this writing. Thomas Wiley is spending this week with his daughter, Mrs. I. H. Pope and from there he goes to Battle Creek, Mich., to spend the winter.

Clova Apple visited Anna Shepler Tuesday. Protracted meeting began at the the Friends church in Maxwell Thursday night.

Theodore Brizendine visited his brother and family Friday and Saturday night.

John Henry, son of Milton Henry, is reported as on the sick list. Milly Apple and son, Noble, visited Charles Apple and family Friday.

Delilah Fort, Mary Hudson, Noah Wilson, T. S. Brizendine and son, Charles, were shopping at Greenfield Saturday.

Frank Apple and family, Lincoln Shepler and family called on their parents, John Apple and wife Saturday.

A well filled house and a good meeting were had at the Friends church Sunday night.

Mrs. Emily Jane Hudson, of Cumberland, is visiting Delilah Fort and son and other relatives,

Lincoln Shepler, wife and son, Emery, visited Tom Brizendine and family Sunday.

The elevator at Maxwell began taking corn in Monday for the first. The funeral of Mrs. Caroline Gant occurred Tuesday. She was of a large family of sixteen children, who have all crossed our river of Death except four, John T. Henry, Martha Barnard, of Maxwell, Milton Henry, who resides on part of the old home place, and Mrs. Sarah Moore, of ISden.

Ira Roberts was on his route gathering cream and delivering Monday, for an Indianapolis firm.

L. C. Crider and family spent Sunday with Charles Crider and family. John Welchel, of Anderson, was the guest of his parents, Howard Welchel and wife, over Sunday.

Mrs. Elmer Beim, son and daughter, Lucien and Lucy, and Mrs. Henrietta Jeffries attended the funeral of Mrs. Alvin Hilligoss, near Maxwell Tuesday.

Howard Brooks and family, of Willow Branch, spent Sunday with Ben Lowe and family.

John Mitchell and family spent Sunday with Elmer Heim and family. Umer Giles and family, John Briney and family, A1 Wiggins and granddaughter, Helen Mulvihill, Mrs. Hettie Mulvihill and John King, of Indianapolis, were guests of Andy

Briney and family Saturday night. Refreshments of popcorn, apples and taffy were served.

Ethel Gibbs, who is at Forest, Ind., helping in a meeting, reports a good meeting and fine sucbess.

Several from here attended the revival at the M. E. church at Greenfield Sunday night.

John Aronhalt and daughter, Miss Blanche, attended church at Cleveland Sunday.

William Huth and family returned to their home in Laporte Friday after an extended visit with her parents, L. C. Crider and wife.

Mrs. James Moore is not so well again. Mrs. McGrady and family called on Alva Fry and family Sunday afternoon.

Young people's meeting was held at the home of Elmer Heim Sunday afternoon and was well attended.

Omer Giles and family were guests of the latter's sister, Mrs. Mary Meisel, of Brandywine township, Sunday and attended the funeral of Edward Liming at Mt. Lebanon.•

Forest Crider, of Greenfield, and Charles Mitchell were at Hargrove church Sunday morning.

Mrs. John Williams and family were the guests of her parents, John Sipe and famiiy Sunday.

Guy and Jay Aronhalt were at Indianapolis Wednesday on business. Wm. Kirkpatrick preached here Sunday morning.

Mrs. George Crider, Mrs. Met Trees, Mrs. John Hudson and Mrs. L. C. Crider were guests of Alva Fry and family Wednesday.

Facts on Prices.

William A. Milbourn, ofRoute 4, was in Greenfield a few days ago. |He is one of the money making farmers of the county. In talking about the price of stock and laud, and the high cost of living, he spoke of the price of wheat and hogs just after the war. He said he remembered when the late Nathan Moore sold 3,000 bushels of wheat to a Greenfield grain buyer for $3.15 per bushel. He said hogs were over 10 cents per pound. He spoke of the great advance in the price of land in Hancock county since he was a boy. He remembers when the 40 aores of land in Brandywine township on which Will Low now lives sold for $130. The entire 40 acnes sold for that amount, while now thai some land is worth that much per acre.

L. L. Jeffries sold a young, fat, Shorthorn cow to Orr & Steele Tuesday which weighed over 1,800 pound. She brought him $86.33. Mr. Jeffries says she was the finest cow in Hancock county.

Rev. N. D. Webber, of Indianapolis, filled the pulpit at Shiloh Sunday. The Shiloh congregation have secured Rev. Allen, of Indianapolis, to preach for that church the coming year. His first sermon will be the first Sunday in January^
