TAKE THE PAPER.
Once upon a time, a man was too economical to take a local paper and sent his little boy to borrow the copy taken by his neighbor. In his haste the boy ran over a |4 stand of bees and in ten minutes looked like a watery squash.
His cries reached his father who ran to his assistance, and failing to see a barbed wire fence ran into it, breaking it down, cutting a handful of flesh from his anatomy and ruining a $4 pair of pants.
The old cow took advantage of the gap in the fence, got into the cornfield and killed herself eating green corn. Hearing the racket, his wife ran out and in her hurry upset a four-gallon churn of rich cream into a basket of kittens and drowned the whole flock. In her hurry she dropped a $7 set of false teeth.
The baby, left alone, crawled through the spilled cream into the parlor and ruined a $20 carpet. During the excitement the oi/iest daughter ran away with the hired man, the horses got out, and the dog broke up a dozen setting hens.

MAXWELL.
The portion of road north of the railroad was oiled a week ago, and Wednesday, the 24th, a portion south of the tracks was oiled. Congratulations to the business men for their splendid move. It has occurred to our minds that a state tax might be placed on each owner of an automobile and that it might be divided among the counties according to number of machines and this money be used to oil the more public highways. That the autos spoil our roads is no longer a question, for they cause to be blown away much of the good subI stance of the roads.
A short service was held at the home of Mrs. Chapoell last Friday, Aug. 20, on the occasion of her daughter's babe's burial. The service was in charge of Revs. Loveless and Westhafer. Mr. Morrison was the undertaker. Burial at the Alford cemetery west of town.
