THE Indianapolis Star well says that Aldrich and Cannon are not Republican leaders, but that for years they have pulled back rather than led forward in expedition for the benefit of the people and the enforcement of the square deal.

There ain't no use in growlin' An' grumblin' all the time, When music's ringin' everywhere,

An' everythings a rhyme. Jus' keep on smilin' cheerfully, If hope is nearly gone, An' bristle up an' grit your teeth,

An' keep on keepin' on.

UNCLE JOE CANNON has got to the promising stage. He now wants the Insurgents to come into the caucus and guarantees them good treatment. The Insurgents are all right the people of the county are back of them. There are a number of Republican Congressmen, who if they do not take off the Cannon and Aldrich collar and get to insurging some will fail to secure a renomination this year.

IF a man steals money or any property and turns it over to some other man who knows that the articles are stolen property, he is subject to conviction and punishment, is a wholesale whiskey man or a brewer who sells whiskey to a bootlegger or any other man whom they know to be proposing to violate the law by illegal sales of said liquor not a party to the crime and equally as guilty. Prosecutions should follow all along the line.

GIFFORD -PINCHOT may be down and out as Chief Forester of the United States,: but President Taft showed his good will and broadmindedness by appointing Pinchot's friend, a Yaleman, as Chief Forester. These men will stand for the rights of the people and see that the Nation's resources are conserved for the people. Congress must act to prevent a general grab by special interests who keep men in Washington constantly lobbying for their wholesale robberies. The people must and will rule. Are you for the people or against them?

THE road question is one of paramount importance in Indiana. There is a movement on foot by the Indiana Engineering Society to have legislation passed under which a State Highway Commission will be appointed that look after road construction and repairing in the State. There is a marked, lack of sound judgment and systematic plans in the building of roads in Indiana. Plans could be devised by a competent board, whereby the roads of the State could be constructed in a much more lasting and substantial way. This would save millions of dollars for the taxpayers of the State for the initial cost and repair of the roads and it would save them many millions more because of their being able to haul larger loads and travel faster over good roads than bad. By all means let Indiana have a State Highway Commission and then the best roads in the United States, honestly, ecomically and well constructed without graft.

IT is barely possible that the new accounting law which adds a hundred officers to the already large number in Indiana and which the people must pay §10 a day for, may be set aside, by being declared unconstitutional. The law provides that two accountants, one Democrat and one Republican travel and work together. They go into a county, examine the books until they are satisfied, file their claim for ten dollars a day each, with the county auditor, who issues his warrant on the treasurer for the amount. The law seems to be weak in that it requires the payment of sums by the auditor for which no appropriation has previously been made by the county council. In Cass county they are determined to make a test case of it. Two accountants came there and went to work Monday, [but an injunctien suit was filed to keep

EX-CONGRESSMAN JAMES E. WATSON, of Rushville, seems to be sticking pretty close to Congress since he retired as Congressman a year ago. He was one of Cannons Chief lieutenants in the big tariff fight at the special session last Spring. Mr. Watson is also Johnny on the spot at this regular session. He is said to have been the man who proposed the plan to Cannon of forcing the Republican Insurgents into the Caucus and then mak ing them stand by the decision of the Caucus or be classed as Democrats. The Insurgents, however, with the people back of them refused to be to be forced and now Cannon and Watson are asking that they come into just one Caucus and promising a square deal. It is said that Mr. Watson is now back in his old position as "Whip of the House," or as near that position as an outsider can get. Congressman, John Dwight, who succeeded Watson as Whip does not seem to be effective in getting Congressmen to do Cannons Will, so Ex-Congress-man, Watson has practically taken charge of the campaign to whip the Insurgents into line.

Illegal Sales of Liquor and Gambling in

Greenfield Must Stop—Clubs Will be

Investigated—Doctors are Warned—

Bootlegging and Gambling Laws Will

be Enforced—Two Men In Jail Now

Because of Whiskey.

Mayor Ora Myers has given warning that all illegal 'sales of liquor, in any and all forms and also gambling must be stopped at once or the offenders will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Club rooms will be investigated and if liquor is used or secreted in them unlawfully, the members will be dealt with according to law. Mr. Myers said Saturday "druggists, clubs and individuals are fairly warned that the illegal sale of liquor or bootlegging in any form will be dealt with according to law. 'Those who px*esist in making illegal sales of whiskey are treading on dangerous grounds and may find themselves in deep water and will have no one to blame but themselves.'' "The law will be enforced," said Mr. Myers, "as far as violations are concerned, either in selling or using liquor. Two men are now in jail on fines and sentences because of whiskey and they said they secured the- whiskey in Greenfield. The men in jail tried to get prescriptions from doctors, and I give warning that any doctor gives a prescription when it is not needed, he will be prosecuted under the law." "Club rooms will be looked after," he said, "and if the clubs are entitled to keep liquor all right. If not they will be taken care of as bootleggers. All places where liquor is secreted or kept openly, will be investigated and dealt with according to the law as it

In regard to reported gambling, Mr. Myers said, "Gamblers and gambling will be taken care of and the latter prosecuted,, when caught. Gambling in club roopis of boys or men, if it is now going on, must be stopped or the guilty ones suffer the consequences."

The Mayor said he was going to find out and that soon who was doing the bootlegging here, as there was no doubt that it was being practiced. He has been looking up the laws and ordinances in regard to clubs, etc., and now intends to proceed to business without any furthur warning.

After finding that there was a state law and also an ordinance against minors playing pool or being in pool rooms, Mr. Myers issued an order, which was carried out by the Marshal and which has been approved by parents of boys all over the city and county.

Charles Nichols and wife entertained a party of friends Wednesday night at their home south of town. About thirty were present to enjoy the occasion. Music, games and conversation were indulged in till a late hour. Light refreshments were served.

Miss Hattie Duncan entertained at slumber party Sautrday night, honoring her guest, Miss Jessie Gwinn, of Fortville. Th^1 other guests were Misses Jane Bennett, Irene Boyd, Ethel Rigdon, Annie Laurie Hafner, Ethel Stephens, Nelle and Alma Jessup.

Stomach Trouble Cured.

If you have any trouble with your stomach you should take Chamberlain'^ Stomach and Liver Tablets. Mr. J. P. Kloe, of Edina, Mo., says: "I have used a great many different medicines for stomach trouble, but find Chamberlain's Stomach and Liver Tablets more beneficial than any other remedy I ever used." For sale by all druggists.
