J. E. Shelby is Certainly Making Good
Since going to Birmingham Mr. Shelby has been one of its leading citizens. He has been a member of the Board of Trade since 1902, and was its President in 1906 and has been elected Vice President three times. Mr. Shelby was Chairman of the Committe which secured from the Legislature the bill for Greater Birmingham. For eight years he has been President of the Music Festival and Floral Association. He is also a Past Exalted Ruler of the B. P. O. E., of Birmingham lodge, and was for a year President of ths State Association of Elks and is now Chairman of the State Executive Committee, and he represented the Birmingham lodge at the National meeting at Los Angeles in 1909. He is also a member of the committee for a National Orphans- Home for the Elks.
Mr. Shelby certainly made good in a social, financial .and a business way in Birmingham and we wish him even greater success in his new home in Denver.
School Board Will Fit up Basement of
New Block for Boys and Girls—Is
an Experiment Now.
The school board and Supt. W. C. Goble have decided to fit up a gymnasium in the basement of the New block on West Main street for the boys and girls of the high school and departmental. A contract has practically been closed for the room and a ways and means committee will be appointed at once to plan for securing and installing the necessary paraphernalia and apparatus. The school board only agrees to pay the rent of the room. A gymnasium is something that has been n'eeded for many years and it will certainly be appreciated by the boys and girls and should be appreciated and supported by the people as far far the latter is necessary. The boys and girls will probably help to support the institution with entertainments at different times.
A Long Ways to Get Money.
John George, of Ur-Chaldeas, Syria, was here Tuesday. He is collecting money for the erection and support of a school for orphan children in his home town. He states that the orphans are not eared for in his country and he takes this method to secure support for them. Mr. George talks very little English, but has credentials from prominent people, which establishes his identy and his purpose. He spoke at the Christian church Sunday night.
Fever Sores.
Fever sores and old chronic sores should not be helped entirely, but should be kept in healthy condition. This can be done by applying Chamberlain's Salve. This salve has no superior for this purpose. It is also most excellent for chapped hands, sore nipples, burns and diseases of the skin. For sale by all druggists.
Climbing The Mountains.

GREENFIELD REPUBLICAN, THURSDAY, JANUARY 13, 1910.
HANCOCK JOUNTY BOY
—Moving to Denver, Colo.
Edward Shelby and wife, of Birmingham, Ala., were here Sunday and Monday as guests of her father, S. O. Shumway and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Shelby left Monday for Denver, Colo., where he will engage in business. The following article from the Birmingham Register shows what success and standing Mr. Shelby has attained in Birmingham since he went there ten years ago. 'Birmingham will lose one of her most faithful servants and one of her best business men, and Denver, Colo., will gain a splendid citizen when J. E. Shelby takes up his residence in that Western city. 'Mr. Shelby leaves Birmingham to accept the position of president and general manager of the Knight-Locke Piano Company, in which the Cable Piano Company owns the controlling stock. This house is known as the largest in the West, and controls business not only in Colorado, but in adjoining States and Mr. Shelby has taken a third interest in the business. '•Since Mr. Shelby first came to Birmingham he has been devoted to her interests and has always been ready to do anything for her welfare. He will be a great loss to the city and his leaving will be a cause of genuine regret. "Quite a number of Mr. Shelby's friends are urging him to remain in Birmingham and make the race for Mayor, assuring him that his election would be certain, but he says "No." He has closed his deal and must go."

TRIED Mp HERE
Two Young Men Passed Doctored Bill
On New Castle Man. Local Man
Suspected and Didn't Bite.
Two young men succeeded in passing a one dollar bill raised to ten dollars with court plaster on which an "O" was rudely printed, on a New Castle restaurant proprietor yesterday, receiving over nine dollars in change for'the one dollar bill.'
TRIED TO WORK SAME GAME HERE.
Last Wednesday evening two young men, strangers, went into the book store here owned by Wm. Lewis and asked if he kept pocket combs. Mr. Lewis got out an assortment of combs and one young man took one tendering a ten dollar bill in payment. Mr. Lewis who had his suspicions remarked that the bill was a large one to change for only a five cent sale, whereupon the other young man selected a comb, but Mr. Lewis, to get out of changing the bill remarked that to change the bill would take all his small change. The young man who had handed the bill to Mr. Lewis then gave him a dime in payment and left the store.
Mr. Lewis states that the bill was a new one and in running his hand over it he felt that there was something crooked about it.
He is sure that these* young men are the same that passed the courtplaster bill at New Castle.

Adminigrrator of G. E. Nelson Estate
Brings Suit Against T. H., I. & E.
Luther T. Symons, administrator of the estate of George E. Nelson, deceased, filed suit Friday against the T. H., I. & E. Co. for §10,000 damage for the death of Mr. Nelson. He alleges that Mr. Nelson died as the result of injuries he received when his horse became seared at a T. H., I. & E. car last April. He also alleges that the company's agents ran the car negligently, causing the horse Mr. Nelson was driving to rear and plunge and that they failed to stop the car when the horse became scared.
Cured of a Severe Attack of Bron
chitis by Chamberlain's Cough
Remedy.
"On October 18th, last, my little three year old Jdaughter contracted a a severe cold which resulted in a bad case of bronchitis," says Mrs. W. G. Gibson, Lexington, Ky. "She lost the power of speech completely and was a very sick child. Fortuntely we had a bottle of Chamberlain's Cough ESamedy in the house and gave it to her according to the printed directions. On the second day she was a great deal better, and on the fifth day, October 23rd, she was entirely well of her cold and bronchitis, which I attribute to this splendid medicine. I recommend Chamberlain's Cough Remedy unreservedly as I have found it the surest, safest and quickest cure for colds, both for children and adults, of any I have ever used." For sale by all druggists.
Newspaper Advertising.
For a newspaper to recommend newspaper advertising is like a grocer recommending groceries. As occasionally patrons try a raw food diet and eat nuts and fruits exclusively, so business men try advertising wagons, billboards, store windows and circulars but just as the groceryman's patrons come back to flour, grits, sugar, rice, so the experimenters in other lines of advertising return to the newspaper. Newspaper space is indispensable in business just as the grocer's wares are necessities of life. Chicago Banker.
