Frank Duncan and wife, of Indianapolis, were her yesterday calling on relatives and friends. Frank formerly lived here, and his friends were glad to see him again.

A large number of old soldiers went to Indianapolis today to draw their quarterly pension. Many others took advantage of the reduced rates, between 60 and 70 tickets being sold.

Miss Kate Nave and her brother Geo., of Indianapolis, rode out on their bicycles and were guests at the homes of M. F. Wills and H. C. Rumrill, Sunday. Miss Nave will be one of the teachers in our city schools this year.

Mrs. H. Bacon, who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs. A. R. Walker, returned to her home in Indianapolis today. She was accompanied by her grand-daughter, Miss Georgie Daily, who has been visiting Pearl Walker

W. C. Dadding returned from" Indianapolis today where he went to see his wife who is there taking treatment. He reports Mrs. Dudding as in a very lad condition, she having had a surgical operation performed last Saturday.

Eugene Boyderi, who is connected with the government printing filce, Wcshington, D. C., arrived in tJie city yesterday to spend the month with relatives and friends. *^v'J

Willie Denny and Ira Martin, two of our young gents who left a few weeks ago on the "bog" to see part of the world, returned on Saturday last to the cot of their fathers. They say they can verify the truth of the old saying, that "There is no place like home."

Greenfield has not been troubled with tramps much this summer. Most of them got back to their homes last year and have staid there ever since. The stouepile is the kind of n.edicine to give them when they do get numerous and troublesome.

Dr. J. W. SelmRU went to Indianapolis Friday night to assist Dr. Eastman in performing an operation upon Mrs. W. C. Duddir.g, of this city. Mrs. Duddicg has been pick and confined to ber home for several months, and nothing but a surgical would be of any benefit. The operation was successfully performed, and she is now resting nicely. Mrs. D. has many friends here who wish her a speedy recovery and a safe return home.

A. Gnffln, of Nob'e township, sold to J. A. Widau, July.29th, 100 hogs whose total weight wa* 27,450 pounds, for $1,372.50. He sold two other lots since Jan. 10th, 165 in all, cooking a total of $2,325. They are all of his own raising, and he has more than 200 still on hand.— Rushville Republican.

From the above it is seen that much money can be made raising hogs. ExSenator J. A. Mount, of Montgomery county, makes big money in that way, as he usually sells about $3,000 worth of hogs each year.

The government has very properly gone out of the business of printing return cards on envelopes for firms or individuals. The postofflce department, however, recommends that all envelopes should have a return card so that in case it is not delivered to the party addressed, it will be returned to the writer and not sent to the dead letter office to be opened.
