It is a great mistake to suppose that a simple tonic gives strength: it only stimulates the stomach to renewed action. To impart real strength, the blood must be purified and enriched, and this can only be done by such a standard, alterative, as Ayer.s Sarsaparilla.
Hicks predicts great rains for June. We hope he is correct as it will come in time to do the corn good. It looks like Hancock county will have a fair crop of oats and grass although they will be a little late in maturing. There is also going to be more wheat than people are counting on just now. Men who talk about total failures, have only to think a few moments and they will discover that' Hancock county has never had a total failure of cropB within their memory. Let us count our ble&lngs.

HOW TO BOOM A TOWN
KEEP ITS ADVANTAGES BEFORE THE OUTSIDE WORLD.
Instances of Good Results Froin Advertis1 ing—What St. Louis and Atlanta
4'I
will name three individual instances of the hundreds in my knowledge. There are the city of St. Louis, the smaller southern city of Atlanta and the little town of Crowley, La.' It might seem ridiculous to place these three towns in the same category, yet the same means have been used by each and are still being used to keep them always before the public notice. Tho city of St. Louis, with a population of over 500,000, does not consider it beneath its dignity to advertise its advantages, and a fund of no less than $1,000,000 was raised by its commercial bodies for no other purpose than to buy newspaper space and advertise the town. Everybody knows the result. St. Louis is growing rapidly and gaining in strength and influence every day. "The city of Atlanta is the second instance. This city has been tho woudc«r of the ago in growth. Why? Because every newspaper in that city, every man, woman and child works continually for Atlanta. Tho papers and the people stand shoulder to shoulder for the town. I have seen business men in Atlanta who personally hated each other, and who would not speak on the street, get up at a public meeting and vie with each other in subscribing to any fund to advertise the city. Certainly no ono can gainsay the fact that Atlanta has grown under this plan. "The third instance is the little town of Crowley, La. Probably no small city in this section is better known among western people who are looking toward the south to locate. Crowley has issued tens of thousands of special numbers of its local paper, scattering them broadcast through the western country. This is kept up month after month, and the resources of Crowley are fully displayed in these special editions. "I mention theso instances as showing what concerted action by tho people of any community can do toward building up their town and increasing values. The day is past when a town or city can grow without advertising its resources. The example set by such successful cities as those named is being followed by hundreds of others and will be followed by every town which is desirous of adding to its population. To do this work requires not only the 'pulling together' of every public spirited citizen, but also money. Citizens must sink their individual feelings for tho good of the community and loose their purse strings and subscribe freely and liberally. Immediate results must not be expected. Experience shows that persistent work and organization will tell."
Purification of Sewage.
Sewage purification by the ferrozone and polarito process lias been tried at Boulogne, Franco. The plant was somewhat handicapped by the fact that the supply of sewago was very intermittent and had to be stored in a tank before purification. Below the storage tanks were placed two smaller tanks, in one of which the precipitation by ferrozone was effected, while the other formed a reservoir for tLjo dccanted liquid before it passed to tho polarite filter. From a chemical examination of tho effluent from the filter Mr. L. Vanflart, chief chemist of the departmental laboratory of Boulogne-sur-Mer, concludes thatfthe plant removes 84 to 88 per cent of the organic matter present in the raw sewage, the effluent remaining clear and odorless for 15 days. A bacterial examination by Dr. Billet showed that when the original sewage contained 5,250,000 bacteria por cubic centimeter the liquid decanted after treatment with ferrozone contained 812,500 bacteria and the effluent from the polarite filter 42,000, or less than 1 per cent of those origina*jty present.—Engineering.
Government on Business Basis.
There is a conviction growing all over the country that it is possible to get better results from municipal corporations than at present. It is recognized and admitted that the affairs of a city or town are, or should be, purely of a business nature, and if correct busi ness principles are applied by persons qualified to .fill the offices the same good results will follow in the case of the town's business that follow the ap plication of the same principles to successful commercial enterprises.
If we recognize the town as a corporation in which every citizen is a shareholder, we learn how important it is to have the affairs of the corporation properly conducted if we expect to derive qny benefit from our shareholding.
The Man Who Worries.

Done—Citizens Mast Subscribe Liberally and Pull Together.
"Advertising a city or town as a merchant would advertise his business is of comparatively recent origin, yet during the past ten years this plan of letting tfhe people know of the resources and advantages of a city has been highly successful," says the Orange (Tex.) Tribune. "I say this from a knowledge of what I am talking about, for I have, been engaged in doing this class of work for several years. And I will say more: The town or city which keeps its advantages persistently before the outside world through reliable newspapers is the place which shows the greatest increase iu population and material wealth.
