Frauk Askreu met with a painful acciden: on last Sunday week. His horse become frightened and upset the buggy containing Mr. and Mrs. Askren and children the latter escaped unhurt, but Mr. Askren had his shoulder dislocated. He was attended by Dr.«. Waul and Barnhill and is improving.

Mrs. M. J. Philpott and Mrs. J. W. Bowen, were at Indianapolis Saturday. The Melborn family moved from Isaac Hatfield's property to Joseph Loudenback's farm last Wednesday, and Dr. Cox's family now occupy the place from which Mr. M. moved.

The American debating club on South Depot street meets every Thursday evening. They are to have a mock trial soon. There area good many mock trials now-a-days why not have a genuine one once, just for a change
The Sunday afternoon temperance meetings together with other wholesome work, is telling on the whisky traffic but still a good amount of the vile stuff is shipped here, and the "nigger" still remains "in de wood pile."
John Jackson of Indianapolis, was the guest of old friends here last week. Joe Goddard of Centreville is the guest of relatives in town.
Samuel Staley has quit the restaurant business for the summer. IVir. Gaiway of Wisconsin, spent Sunday in town attending M. E. class and afternoon temperance meeting, and taking an active part in both. Come again.

Mr. Trace McCarty died on Tuesday morning of consumption and was buried on Wednesday at the Fort cemetry this makes two brothers who have died within two years.

The last institute for this year in Green township was held here last Saturday and was well attended. County Supt. Jackson was one of the guests. A grand dinner was spread in the lower room and about 65 persons partook of the same and the day was eujoyed by all. The teachers did their work well and presented Trustee J. E. Barrett with an elegant crushed plush rocking-chair, which showed their love and esteem for him. A speech was called for from the new Trustee, Dr. Justice, but he had eaten so much dinner that it was impossible for him to talk. We hope he will practice what he preaches hereafter, and not over load the stomach. Some beautiful music was rendered by Prof. P. J. Slocum aud wife.
Elwood Barnard's children have the scarlet fever very bad. Olive has taken relapse and is in a critical condition.
Mrs. Ben Lummis, who has been so low with stomach trouble is still alive. Geo. Pauley died at his sisters, Mrs. Piper's, north of here Saturday and was buried at Mendon, Monday.
Eflle Alford has the measles. Cbas. Huber, wife and son, of near Pendleton visited Harrison Jarrett and family, Sunday.

Some of our young people were sorely disappointed on last Thursday night on account of the rain, but the thoughtful girls suggested an idea which, through their consoling influence met the hearty approval of the youug men without a veto.

Our school is progressing nicely under the management of W. A. Wood and Anna Ostermyer. Miss Eva Haines of near Bethel, visited friends here last week.
Miss Edna Hawk is soliciting names for a subscription school at this place. We wish her success.
The last quarterly meeting of this conference year will be held here next Saturday and Sunday.

Miss Laura Hervey is suffering from a glandular tumor, just above the collar bone.
Fern Fred is prostrated by the grippe. Peter Hind's oldest girl is struggling with catarrhal fever.
J. W. Jay is Suffering from nervous prostration, the result of too heavy work in the interests of his school.
Mrs. T. B. McCord is feeling quite poorly. Mrs. Pickle, Bessie Rouey and Myrtle Pickle, went to Lawrence Monday uight to assist iu the institution of a Rebekah lodge.
Rev. Fosher is conducting a protracted meeting at Oaklandon. Rev. Fish is holding a series of meetings at Pleasant Grove.
Dr. J. D. Cory and wife visited relatives at Anderson over Sunday. The Eastern Star will have a splendid meeting at Oaklandon next Saturday afternoon.
The second section of the Culture Club entertained section one, at Seymour Morrisons last Thursday night. It was a highly successful affair.
