Mrs. Stanley was born in th-» Historic county of Randolph, N. C. M»y 12, IS 12, consequently she is uo»v in her 81-st year. Her maiden name was Henley, her parents' names beiug Joseph and Feniua Heuley. They were farmers aid iu those days of log cabins and home spuu they lived happily. The good wife weaving for her family, lie tilling the farm in a rude way and living independently. Mr. Henley was considered one of the best aud most industrious farmers of his time. They had heard considerable concerning the advantages offered iu the great northwest, consequently tuey removed to Indiana in 1837, locating near where the towu of Carthage, Rush couuty now stands. They entered 160 acres of iatid and from the biggest to the least., they went to work with oue accord to rid the land of its encumbrances in order that it might be made to yield a sustenance for a large family. How well they succeeded with so wise and prudent a father at the helm is well known to many Itnsh couuty people who saw him rise from meager prosessions to one of the moat wealtny aud influential citizens of Rush county The subject of this sketch was oue of e'even children. She has oue sister and thr:e brothers still living, Henry, Charles iVLicaj.ih and Mrs. Mary Binford all living near Carthage, Henry i? 87, Charles is ?i) Micaja.ii 77 and Mrs. Binford in her 88ri. year. Tliey are all wealthy and iufiu ential, enjoying the confidence and e: teem of a large c.rcle of friends. Her youngest brother Robert, was killed a few years ago white cutting wheat. He was in trout of the sickle adjusting some machinery when his horses took frig)«\ a':d rati away, dragging him to his death in front of the guards. He as 15V}VCHIS old. Stanley and tier husband had ti birthright in the ,.tker church. 6tie has been a faithful christian mother, honored and loved by tier children and esteemed and respected oy all her neighbors, who often call and have her recount her experiences of by goue days. The Hculeys are Republicans in policies b-.it not politicians. They are among the fii^t families of Rush county and Mrs. St-.uiiey is by no means ashamed of her ancestry. Her husband died nearly ten years tigo aud his remains repose in Walnut Ridge cemetery where "beneath the rugged elms, the Yew trees shade where heaves the earth in many a mouldering heap, each in his narrow ceil forever laid, the rugged forefathers of the Hamlet sleep."
