THE GREENFIELD REPUBLICAN
PUBLISHED EVERY THURSDAY.
VOL.
13, No. 43— Entered at the Postoffice as tecond-class mall matter. W. 8. MONTGOMERY,
The Current of events is runuing with the Republicans thi* year. Third parties are as unwelcome in tbe political field as they hav ealways been courting cncles.
Cleveland vetoed soldiers pensions every time he had a chance, tbe old soldier will veto him in November,
THE political outlook is showing up bright for the Republicans everv day. The country Is prosperous and contended, why go rainbow chasing.
TIIE watch word for Republicans this year, is foward boys charge on to vie tory, with gallant Ben Harrison in th« lead. With Cle veland it is, hold on men, wait until I can find a substitute. With such a leader it wilibe halt and retreat, with the Democrats.
Has Grover Cleveland changed his ideas bout pensions? In 1887 he voted them every chance he had, now when he wants back in office he says he favors liberal pensions. The boys in blue preter however to trust General Harrison who has always stood by them.
ALMOST every man has good judgment and would do much better in life if he would only act out his honest convictions Try it in politics this year. The country is and has been prosperous under Republican management why not continue that party in power and renew the lease on prosperity.
JKRRY
Simpson has given up the fight
for Congress in his district and acknowledge that his Republican competitor will be elected. The fact is the Peoples party in the west are rapidly returning to the Republican party as they recognize the fact that either Harrison or Cleveland will occupy the White House for the next four years. 4
Robert B. Rosevel. treasurer of the democratic National committee, wrote in 1885, of the Irish, to nhoui be is now appealing for votes: The inhabitants of the Emerald Isle are ceri aitily a magnificent race, and if they did not lie, steal, cheat, rob and murder.get drunk, perjure themselves, quArrel aud fight, they would be almost as good as other nations.
PEOPLE are probably humbuggtd more in politics than in any other one thing. The various political parties which are opposing the Republican party are promising great things, but what have they or their leaders done to merit the confidence of the people? The Republican party can point with pride to a record of grand achievements in the past, which area guarantee that their pledges will be carried out in the future, aud the pathway of the people be continued by pleasant places to the tfoal of progress and prosperity.

The year of grace 1692 is a Republican year and dout forget it.
the beloved wife of
our President passed away at the White House Tuesday at 1.40 a. m. The President iudeed has the sympathy of the American people regardless of politics. Mrs. Harrison was a kind affectionate lovable and loving wife and mother. On accouut of her superior mind and active disposition she has been a valuable aid and assistant to her brilliant aud successful husband, President Harrison. Elsewhere we give a full account of hel. Tnr funeral'' train will i-'ass through Greeuiielil about 8 40, Friday mo rning.
ONE William Carson, a leading Democrat aud millionaire, of Eau Claire, Wis., is a victim of the Democratic organ. He bet that Mr. Depew would not deny, over his own signature, that he uttered the eulogies upon Mr Cleveland attributed to him by all the Democratic organs of the couutry. A. Republican .took the bet, aud recently received a letter from Mr. Dep«w to the effect that the clippings sent to him contain sentiments he never expressed regarding Mr. Cleveland. Still the forgeries are published. The Greenfield Herald contains the forgery. Democratic organs seem to think that a lie well stuck to will after a time.bebelieyed.
