HORSE NOTES.
*J. O. Branson of New Palestine is the owner of a fiue colt thirteen months old that can trot an cigth in 28 with but little driving. It is named Alceum and is numbered 16957 in the American trotting Register. He was sired by Alceonum 12, 749, Record 2:25 with but little training. He by Alcyone 732, record 2:27, He by Geo. Wilkes. The colts 1st dam, Dixie by the Hinsdale horse 826, sire of Dick Wright 2:19% 2nd dam by Humbird 2171 a standard bred Morgau. The colt will make a great trotter if he is given a chauce. Alceum is a dark bay and as prettty as a picture. *Allertou will attempt to lower the two-mile record over the Mason City, Iowa track in September. *They are now making sulkies with pneumatic tires ball bearing wheels, etc. and it is -uggested that a rubber track will soon be in order. *The Indiana Horse-breeders' meeting at Indianapolis beginning Aug. 10, will attract a fine collection of youngsters at the track. *There were eeventy-two pacers entered at the Indianapolis meeting. Ten years ago there would not have been more than half as*¥iiauy trotters and pacers all told at one meeting, yet some people think we did not have many horses here. *The blood of Blue Bull again showud its influence when Nellie Lloyd 2:25%, Nellie S. 2:2o£ and Czar 2:19% won their races at the Indianapolis meeting. *Commader, 2:26^, son of Blue Bull, has two pacers—Henry F., 2:20%, and Sorrel Dan, 2 19, and last week he had a trotter placed to his credit with a record of 2:25^.
•Prince Echo made a good showing at his first race at Indianapolis. His owner Mr. Fletcher of McCordsville handled him nicely and came within an eye-lash of winning the last heat in the 2:22 pace. *Mascott, the bay gelding that won the first heat of the 2:35 pace in 2:23^ at Indianapolis is by Jot C., son of Blue Bull. In this race he showed that his record was no indication of his speed. Mr. Fletcher handled him with much judgment. *Jessie L., reduced her record from 2:17% to 2:16%, winning tho third and fourth heats in 2:16V. She lost the flftlV and won the sixth race, proving herselu a great race mare and stayer. She is full( of speed and from what she did ought to^ get a record of &12 soon. She won two, heats in the 2:18 pace at Rushville. The Tascos are getting there.
