WILLOW BltANCH.
Amidst Abe busy scenes of life when prosperity happiness and gladness seem to be on every hand, we are occasionally reminded rthat death is also doiug hiwork. Miss Lizzie Kim who has been afflicted so llong with that insidious dis-ease-consumption, died last Fiiday about 10 a. m. Her funeral was preached on Sunday .morning at the house, by the Rev. Slack, who preached an impressive ser mon, tvalarge and appreciative audience. She wasburiad at this place. She was in her 29 year and will be greatly missed as she was an exemplary young lady admired and respected by all. If I were asked to present to the young ladies a model character, I.should unhesitatingly point them Ito her. This feeling seems to be shared by all. Her parents, brothers and other .relatives, have on heartfelt sympathy. She many time expressed her snbmisssveness to the will of her Father, and evidently was prepnred to die... .Dick Fort who has been working at Knightstown, visited home last week. but bas returned to his work

HORSE NOTES.
*While working a horse at youngstown the morning of July 2, John A. Logan Jr. was thrown out of the sulky against the fence and broke one of his arms. The accident was caused through the horse dodging out a gate. *Ed Bither says that the best body wash he ever saw is made from a gallon and a half of wich hazel, one gallon of rum, one gallon of arnica and a gallon and a half of water. It is a little too expensive to use on a horse in races, but it is the proper thing to do them up with when the battle is over. *In horse breeding, as any thing else, it is the best that pays. Auy one conversant with the horse market knows this. Good horses leave a lot of good money behind them for the breeder. Blood, bone, action and manner will secure good prices. •A prominent horseman speaking of the faults of jockeys and drivers said: "I never want a person who will turn around to see where the rest of the contestants are in a race just as he is nearing the the wire. Such a person can neither ride or drive for me the second time.
While Johnston is fifteen years old he is able to go three heats under 2:15. Blue Bull, the pacing sires of troters and pacers, and especially so of the former, spoke out three times with his prepotent blood through three winners at Richmond meeting last week, and all trotters. Who says Blue Bull wont breed on» ":U. K. Gutliery, of Marion, Ohio, is workiug a two-year-old pacing filly by American Boy, and if she improves in the next sixty days like she has in the past sixty, including breaking, she will do her sire proud and get a record something like her half brother Floral Boy, 2:20. She is nicely bred and is looking every inch like a race horse. •Another Blue Bull mare in the great list—the dam of Mary Centlivre, 2:17)4, and Atlantic King, 2:20%. *In ole times honesty wuz de bes' policy but in dese days de mau what buys a hess am supposed to locate de spavins fur hisself.—Brudder Gardner. *Floral Boy, the winner of the 2:35 pace at Richmond, Iud., last week, aud making a record of 2:20 in the third heat, is one of the coming pacers. He was bred by Grant Taylor, of Pendleton, Itid This colt is four years old his sire is American Boy, the sire of Dick H. 2:18, Billy Stewart, 2:18%, and American Girl, 2:20. His dam was by Telegroph Jr. This colt was a surprise to the long heads that put up their money stopped first. Here is as g!iine a lioiw as ver came «up for the word, and will, if all geos right, take a mark of 2:15 b.tlore the season is over.
Tne Republican is glad to state that them area good number of American Bay colts iu this county. Floral Boy by Am erican Hoy will go in 2:18: this year sure. Tasco 2:20% is by American Boy and Hancock county is the home of the Ta»co.
Allerton and Nancy Hanks will race at Indepenpence Iowa meeting in August for $10 000 a side.
Plug horses are not selling high but those that are good size and have the getaway" blood in them bring first class prices.
Ano one wanting a first class horse paper should subscribe forthe Western Horse man, published at Indianapolis., For Indiana horse news it is a would beat and is the equal of any other horse paper for general news. The Horseman is now edited by Dr.* See, McMahan formed of Rushville.
To prevent a n.are from kicking buckle a strap around heraukles To the strap Htta' a rather liyht chain, say ten to twelve inches long. This will not mutilate the animal, but when she kicks it will give her an educational stinging that will spoil her fun. I have never known this device to fail.

C. L. Pray aD. V. S. of Ne«v Castle is ic the city, this week. He has in his .possession a 3 year old horse that is splendidly bred being sired by Red Wilkes dam by Longfellow Whip. It has a deformity that renders it quite a curiosity and it is being veiwed by hundreds of men at Jeff ries & Sou's Livery barn. It possesses great intelligence and has acquired, and been taught, many remarkable tricks, Mr. Pray will give an exhibition with biiu on our streets Saturday afternoon, also a private exhibition at Jeffries barn to which only men will admitted. The Doctor also proposes to give exhibitions with him in front of the Ampitheater during our fair. The exhibitions are free.
The following extract from a letter written by J. A. Starbuck of Yorktown, Iowa, speaks for itself: "Two years ago iu harvest time, a young man came in my store and said he had been binding wheat during the forenoon, and was so bad with diarrhcea and colic pains, that he would have to lay off unless he could get relief. I took a bottle of your diarrhoea remedy from the shelf gave him a dose sold him the bottle, and told him I would give him the money back if it did no good. He came in next morning aud said the single dose did its work so well that he not only kept up his place binding during the afternoou, but had worked all night, and had the price of the dose I gave him been three dollars it would have been cheap. I will further say keep on with your good work. You cannot recommend your medicine to highly. Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Dlarrhcea Remedy is one of the greatest medicines of the age It cannot be beat. Wishing you much success and prosperity which you richly deserve, I rernaiu truly your friend." For sale by V. Early.

Parents who have young children will be interested in the experience of Mr. Alex Moir, a promihent druggist at Britt, Iowa. He says: During the summer of 1882, my little girl, two years of age, was taken seriously ill with summer complaint—so common to children of that age: After being treated by a physician and getting no better, I took from my shelves a bottle, of .Chamberlains Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy. She "felt relieved after the first dose and three days was entirely well." For vale by V. L. Early.
