HOPEWELL..
Not hearing from this place for some time, I thought we should be represented in one of the best papersof the «ii«y as well as our neighboring towns. Health is comparatively good... .Thomas Craig is hauling wheat to Mt. Comfort.. ..
Health about Mohawk and vicinity is not quite so good. The grippe seems to have taken afresh start. Mrs. Wallsmith is improving slowly, when we look back and think what she has passed through it seems almost miraculous that she is alive. We hope to see her well again to enjoy life after so mnch pain Samuel Barnard has been sick with the grippe, but is now able to be up James W. Murphy, head sawyer in the saw mill of Newman & Albea, met with a serious accident while belting the machinery preperatory for work. He threw his arm in such a shape &s to come in contact with a small picket saw, entering the arm near the elbow and cutting the arm quite half off partly severing the bone. It is impossible to tell at this writing just what the wound will amount to. Mr. Murphy is a laborer and depends upon his daily labor for ths sustenance of his family which make this accident doubly hard on him It seems that the vicinity of Mohawk, is getting more than its share of painful accidents. Some of these seem more than we can bear for they have taken loved ones from us that seemed as dear to us as lite, but we go taimly on awaiting our turn to go, may we be ready .A. O. Steel is at present out of the mammoth onions but will soon have another invoice for the Mohawk, boys it is no uncommon t'.ing to see young men with a large onion in their pocket going to see their girl.... Win. Pope is beginning the erection of a new dwelling house which will be quite an improvement to our neighborhood. ... Wm. W. Snider is erecting a nice commodious building for his farming tools. Mr. Snider is a wide awake farmer and knows how to take care of anything when he gets it. Those who have their binders should take pattern after Mr. Snider Aquilla Grist was in this vicinity Friday doing business for the Hancocjt Farmers Insurants Co. of which he is a director. Mr. Grist is a clever gentleman and a good business inan and is doing good work for the Co. he represents... .There was a nice little wedding in our neighborhood Saturday evening the contracting parties being Mr. Walter Breece of Philadelphia. a»d~Miss Rachel Foster of Mohawk. It is said that Mr. Martin Breece of Mohawk WHS best man. We wish them joy through life.. ..The gas well will be drilled at one*. Mr. Cole has the coutract. It will 1.j sunk on the lot of Mr. F. Wilson jus', north of his store house we expect a gusher. There has been so much gas spent in getting this well started it will take a good flow to replace what has ahvttdy been used JACK.

It gives its patrols here weekly double doses of its dry food aud Anderson boom. It does seem Strang* that an enlightened comunity as we hivve should be played for rank sue) is. This is another paper that does not regard County correspondence as one of its most valuable features Mammie Cooper the ven erable mother of Mi* I. W. Cooper, our grain dealer, (jind a gentleman by the way who has mad a himself universally liked, by his pleasant courtesy of manner and honerable business dealings) (has been in an enfeebled condition for ths past month at her home in Mechanicsburg. This estimable lady, and mother who has past her 90th year, has generally enjoyed good health and has retained wonderful preservation of mental faculties. In her religious belief she has always been a follower of the Quakers We thank our dear frieuds for the very a it ei ing appreciation of our productions. We are glad that, our efforts are being appreciated, and we are also delighted with the courteous treatment accorded us by the Editor of the Greenfield REPUBLICAN, Mr. W.S. Montgomery. There are sometimes occasions where we feel our incapacity to do the subject justice on which Ave are called to write, and at times there comes a demand for work of that character that seems hard to resist But we will do our best if we bust our gallnsus in the glorious cause... .David Judd who has been ill for a number of we?ks with a well defined case of rheumatism is now improving. Mr. Judd is a hero and JI philosopher however. He li'is had seveiJII jittacics before during his life time, and figures up his condition each morning with calmness and coolness and bears his suffering like an old castilian. Copious use cf ice is the only treatment that has been benflcial to him... .Mr. W. 'J. Petle the C. W. & M. agent is JI pleasant faced and geniju mannered jiud companionably a gentleman as Markleville posesses, either in his office or among a group of friends. He is capable and popular, and ther nothing stilted or nfFected about Wils, no evidence of vanity. to the publisher or apply here for specimen copies, that is the best way to judge of the piper. Samples mailed free We know of two young men who are actually postponing their marriage because they dont know where they can rent a a house, and they want to go to housekeeping just as soon as they get hitched. This is a pointer for men with spare capital for which the writer does not charge one cent.. .Mr. Luther Miller of Meohanicsburg, is rapidly acquiring a reputation as a pushing contractor. He has now 111 ree dwellings und^r contact here. That is extending far beyond what he has hitherto regarded as his legitimate bailiwick. We would not be surprised r.o learn some day that he has not oni achieved fame, but fortune. We trust that success nui.v ubide with him.. Another one of those delightful dances which the VVilkiusoniaiis are noted, was given last week at Loundenbjicks hull. As usual Markleville was well represented jind the major part of the night w:as spent in triping the heavy l'aiitjistic. Had it not been for the confounded grippe, we would have had Dr. Lundy Fuse.-11 shoulder his violin and went down there and shown a thing or two as the maz. were performed in the days of yore.. One thing suggests another, and this recalls many pleasant remembrances of the time past and the many pleasant evenings we spent with Lundy and the ladies at the country dances. Talk about dancing girls, why the barnyards were actually over run with them and they were right at home on a waltz, polka, catillion rand schottish, and such music as the doctor rendered, was enough to make the sanctified dance. Lany was equally as proficient on the floor as he was with the viollins, and well we remember how the good Doctor always came in for a handsom share of praise....We are inclined to indulge a remembence about subscribing for a journal in which the home news are faithfully cherished, something in which you are more directly interested in, we intimate that you take the Greenfield REPUBLICAN, a conservative paper in which you will get full value for investment. Its colums you will notice area fair criterian how it favors its correspondents and does not save expense in composition. Four and one half column of county correspondence in its issue of the lSto, ultimo, and almost every line of it set solid. Alongside of such showing as this, how insignificent must appear the Madison County papers We had the pleasure of making the acquaintance, Wednesday last of Mr. J. M. Hufford, traveling correspondent and solicitor for the REPUBLICAN. We find him a plain unassuming and exceedingly modest man and a perfect gentleman in every way. Heelings to the hand of each with a cordiality that is an evidence of friendly feeling. He S'c ms to luive the entve, and while here was received with JI considaration and courtesy that leaves no doubt as to his standing. The REPUBLICAN no doubt places a high valuation on Mr. Hufford, and can rest assured that the interests are faithfully looked after. Under the non-de plume of Rambler, Mr. H. is not given to concealing from the world his real desires merely for out side show. He greeted the publisher with a goodly list of subscriber at this office. IXCJCNITO.

"J have just recovered from a second attack/)f the grip this year," says Mr. Jns, O. Jones, publisher of the Leader, Mexia Texas. In the latter case I used Chamberlain's Cough Remedy, and I think with considerable success, only being in bed a little over two days, against ten days for the first attack. The second attack I am satisfied would have been equally as bad as the first but for the use of this remedy as I had to go to bed in about six hours after being 'struck' with it, while in thfi^v first case I was able to attend to bnsin^^r1' about days before getting 'down. 50 cent bottles for sale by V.
