Time had no show alongside of opportunity. •'You dou't lovo me a little bit!' she said. •'Love you! I worship you, sweetheart—darling!" The blonde head was brought against the manly breast for the fifteenth time and a soft, clinging kiss was planted where it would do the most good. demand more consideration. Tbe population of Alaska is increasing, and must be consulted about its concerns.
Our esteemed contemporary, the Juneau Record, is the champion of this Alaskan discontent. It urges the people of Alaska to hold a convention, present their grievances to Congress and demand justice. It uages them, if redress is not given, to raise the motto of 'Alaska for the Alaskans," though the word Alaskans does not, in this case, cover the 25,000 aboriginal natives of the soil who constitute the majority of its population.
We implore the Juneau Record, and the Alaskans whom it represents, to keep as calm as possible in their discontent. The next Congress may give them a territorial form of government, and it may not.

A Remarkable Stone Thrower. It is supposed that we have no men nowadays who could compete on even terms with the old archers. A man named Uri Bailey recently died in Pennsylvania who was worthy of a place with the old-time soldiers. His skill in throwing stones was said to be marvelous. He was mentally deficient but a giant physically. His aim with stones at any man or game was as unerring as that of the most skillful handler of the rifle. He annually bagged scores of small game, pheasants, rabbits, quails and squirrels, which he killed with stones. He could kill a bird on the wing or a rabbit ad full speed almost as easily as he could kill it at rest. He had a large leather pouch attached to one side of his coat, in which he on all occasions carried a good supply of carefully selected stones. An exhibition of his skill, which was always a favorite with him was to set up a scythe blade, edge toward him, and at a distance of 100 feet cut apples into halves by throwing them against the edge of the blade- He could almost exactly halve two out of every three of apples he threw. Robin Hood's great feet of skill was to set up a peeled sapling at a considerable distance and split it with an arrow. We do not see that this was more difficult than splitting the apple on the scythe blade.
One of the strongest and most flourishing unions in the country is the Woman's Educational and Industrial Union of Buffalo. An interesting and unique feature of this society is the Woman's Room, soon to be opened, where will be found catalogues of women's colleges, reports of all forms of women's temperance, political, educational and philanthropical work, cases of scientific collections made and presented by women, photographs of the works of women artists, copies of musical compositions, and editions of books written by women. Portraits of famous women will also contribute toward making the world familiar with women workers and their art.

"One of the shrewdest pickpockets Chicago ever produced told me a story the other day which will bear repeating." said a member of the central detail recently. 'A few years ago I sauntered into a saloon on Halsted street one night to get a glass of bser. I was flush just then and had about decided to quit business for good. While I was standing there at the bar a couple of pompous, well-dressed and apparently wealthy gentlemen got into an animated discussion about pickpockets and highwaymen. One of them, who flashed a big watch chain with an enormous fob, remarked that he had no fear whatever that any one would molest him, because he rarely carried with him anything of great value except his watch. And the watch, he added, would do the thief no good, because it was too plainly marked to be disposed of readily, as it bore his monogram in diamonds ou the case and was well known about town. 'Well, after listening to that sort of talk for a few minutes I found I had au uncontrollable desire to take a look at that monogram. I left the place and took my station just outside the door. As the two men left the place I attempted to enter. We met right in the door-way, and when we untangled ourselves 1 was inside the saloon, and the watch in my pocket. I had fully made up my mind to examine the time-piece at my leisure, and send it back to the owner with a friendly bit of advice about talking too much in public places. But I didn't do it after all.' "'Why not?' 'Because I gave it to a newsboy. It was a "Waterbury," and the hourhand was gone.'"

J'9'
Those who have not used Boschee's German Syrup for some severe and chronic trouble of the Throat and Lungs can hard
ly appreciate what a truly wonder-, ful medicine it is. The delicious sensations of healing, easing, clearing, strength-gathering and recovering are unknown joys. For German Syrup we do not ask easy cases. Sugar and water may smooth a throat or stop a tickling—for a while. This is as far as the ordinary cough medicine goes. Boschee's German Syrup is a discovery, a great Throat and Lung Specialty. Where for years there have been sensitiveness, pain, coughing, spitting, hemorrhage, voice failure, weakness, slipping down hill, where doctors and medicine and advice have been swal» lowed and followed to the gulf of despair, where there is the sickening conviction that all is over and the end is inevitable, there we place German Syrup. It cures. You are alive man yet if you take it.
